What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Over the last 24 hours I've replaced my rear lower control arms and rear swaybar linkages. Completely cured the car of acceleration pull, and feels entirely safe now at freeway speeds. No more random fake-wind wobble.

even though i posted this in my original thread. This is what I did on my 4runner after i found 2" of rain water in my rocker panels

Ok, so ive been very busy. And honestly I believe that I have came up with a easy solution to avoid the sun roof from draining into your rocker panels. If you ask me, this is stupid. Im sure 99% this is why the rocker panels rot out! Toyota extended their drains in the back to the outside. But the fronts... come on? really into the rocker panels?

I went to Home Depot and got a coupling 3/8 and 3/8 hose.

Remove the driver side plastic kick panel, and you'll see a yellow sponge. Take that out and you'll see a drain tube. Pull it out. Its not easy takes little effor but don't be afraid.

If you look down there, at a certain angle. You will see a small opening. Carefully snake your new tube into that hole.

Outside of the truck. Behind the plastic fender wheel cover there is a small gray/silver plug. Its plastic, so it does not water tight seal it. Remove it! Most likely you will damage it lol.

So, in this picture you can see the new clear tube. Through that hole.

You use pliers and grab the clear new tube and pull it threw that hole. Then slide a new rubber grommet over it and tightly into the rocker panel hole. Yes, i know the 90 degree bend on that tube is not pretty. But believe me. The tube is strong and thick. There is a good gab for the water to drain out.

I also put RTV around the tube where it comes out of the grommet to seal it little better. The grommets inner hole was slightly larger then the new tube.

I tested the sun roof drain.

Good tip. Once you pull the new tube out. Then connect it to the original drain tube with your coupling. And it wouldn't hurt to wrap them both in electrical tape after they are connected. Makes it so when you pull the white tube out side you, the coupling won't slide out of the original drain tube. Self exploratory.

Same concept on the passenger side

Look closely...

You see the hole! thats the hole you need to put the rube through in order to see it outside the other hole.

And this is the passenger side

I tested it about 30 times and every time the water drained out nicley and DIRECTLY OUTSIDE! Once the plastic fender cover is back on. You cannot see the drain tube

Got the runner close to aligned, ride height needs to come down a bit, but it sure does ride better than with just coilovers and upper arms.

looks good!

what coils are you running??

In that pic they were 18" 600 lb coils, I really don't know why king sent them like that. Swapped out for 16" 600 lb'ers and dropped it about 3" it's perfect now.

ok, some guys do like the 18", ohh yeah the 16" ride nice i use to run 14" because a shock shop told me it was better and clearly it was not, i was running too much pre load.

cool truck.. that light set up looks familiar...:naughty:

Today I had to replace yet another bad Costco/Interstate battery - it would not hold a charge. If I didn't drive the truck for 2 or 3 days the battery would be flat, and it was only 18 months old!

At least I got the new battery for free when I returned the old one. This is about the 4th time a Costco battery didn't last 2 years.

The new battery turns over the engine quite nicely, even after sitting for a few days, which should rule out any electrical issues such as something stuck on and draining the battery.

Thanks for the feedback on what I might possibly expect. I'm gonna call the store tomorrow and ask them to mount and balance them and give me an out the door price. Then the haggling begins. lol

I have been looking at AT/MT hybrids for a while. Then I decided to go MT. Then Unner advised against it. So back to AT/MT hybrids it was. I've run MT's in the past and have run AT's in the past. There has always been pro's and con's to either. Once DuraTracs hit the market the hybrid was born. I've never run one and figured I'd give it a shot.

It was down to Nitto Ridge Grapplers and the Toyo R/t. I spent a lot of time reading and keeping up with this thread and it's part if what I'm basing my final choice on. Reviews are very good all over the web as well. It's been said it's easy to balance and they have them in 285/75r17 E. Why E and not C? There's no weight difference and I travel a lot of shale type rock roads. I can always lower the tire pressure if they're bone jarring at the recommended pressure on the street.

Thanks for the response. It's actually funny because I want to go to a MT Tire and my dad finds a BFG AT at like 50% (for my spare) for 50.00. I have been through a lot and I watch signs and think that this is another sign to maybe not be FIXED onto the STT PRO's. I'm curious what they will say, I have a feeling the best bet is to ask for a supervisor because the guy at the counter is going to say something we all hate hearing. Now I have learned a lot about the load rating of tires and am inbetween on the types I want. I ultimately want a D max due to the amount of flex that comes out of a E rated tire. I believe my current Duratrac are 'D' rated and don't flex like my old BFG KM's that were C. My dad picked up the Pitbull Tires on the 50% off sale last year and they are rated C's and (yes he has beadlocks and runs them at like 8 or 10 PSI), but they Flex so well. The difference of C to D is amazingly different and wish I understood tires more :(

But goodluck on the tires :)

What tires are those?

I'm currently running 285/70R17 Duratrac. Now I have been in 4 feet of snow (fresh powder) and I did great, though the tires would NEVER clear out and as soon as I went out of the tracks I got instantly stuck BAD and even 'spinning' the tires they wouldn't clear. I have been in snow and mud also. In all cases they got me around, but didn't perform like I personally wanted. Now I will say they still have 50% tread at almost 40k miles on them. I've done almost a 1/3rd of those miles (12k or so) off roads, aka no pavement.

When I did a snow/rain run about 3 months ago I got stuck in 2-3' so bad I spent 2 hours digging/winching myself out. At the end of this ordeal I possibly consumed to much compensation but I couldn't move when I got home. I was on the verge of crying because all my other snow runs were great and I was the ONLY person struggling. I was at 12-16 PSI, maxx trax and everything still struggling. Finally my dad came back from up from foraging to the Lake itself and helped me get turned around. He had me go down to 5 PSI(I was SO SCARED to roll a bead) but it made my vehicle do everything then.

I've talked to people who love these tires and people who hate them. On my previous two vehicles I ran BFG KM(KM2's also). I've been in situations like the snow/rain and I didn't deal with these problems. Even in deep snow I could blaze a trail and drive around pushing snow and breaking trail. So my next set of tires will not be these, most likely I will debate this on when it happens and go from there..but leaning on a MT tire though.

Now I will say in a review of the Duratrac is the following:
- New Snow (Excellent up to 2', following someone blazing trail up to about 4')
- Snow/Ice (Air Down to 20 PSI, slow driving and I was able to do EVERYTHING in 2' of snow. There was a part of where the tires LOST complete traction and I was on a collision course for a vehicle, once I finally stopped and did the even throttle and controlled movement these performed above what I expected)
- Rain/Snow (2-3' of snow, Air down to 20PSI - Struggled beyond words. If I stopped the going was SO difficult to move forward even pointing down hill. Some might remember that I couldn't even turn because the tires turned into a rolling slick ball that wouldn't clear out whatsoever. I was following tracks and people when my frustrating stuck happened. I wasn't doing anything wrong but I just got stuck...but it's what it is. My only solution I found for this problem was to drop down below 10 PSI. I will NOTE that I feel if I had a lesser rated tire from D to a C it would have performed better)
- Rain (Great no problems here at all, always had traction unless I purposely broke the rear end loose)
- Sand (Did fine at 15 Air Down PSI to everything with out a problem even stopping on a hill of 30/40Degress and was able to go just fine. In soft sand I was fine even when it tried to get me stuck
- Mud (so so, they don't clean out and seem slippery for all the area's I drove them at. Which is from the Oregon Coast (Brown's Camp to Hoodoo/Bend Area. The dirt is different in each area and all areas performed pretty much the same. If it was muddy, muddy these wouldn't move me forward.)
- Daily Pavement Driving (The road noise is alright, and I say this because these TIRES will pick up anything smaller than a half-dollar coin. I park in a gravel road area and I pick-up a rock every time if not 5. They sometimes will come out but i've had one stay for 100+ miles till i got frustrated by the click, click, click and pull it out

So if someone is looking for a all-around tire this could be for them, but be aware of your potential area's you want to drive in. This is my personal review of the tires and I wasn't sponsored these did get purchased OUT of my own pocket. I will not be buying another set, but if someone gave me a set I would run them. I'm sure this doesn't make sense..haha

Are the 99+ lights better than the stock on my 97?

Ted

ex VE3BOI

IMO yeah . Better looking and a redesigned reflector . I bought the new ones some time ago and finally got around to installing them yesterday . If you are on the hunt for new lights ASK your seller if the lenses are glass or plastic . I would search out the glass ones ( as mine are ) because the plastic will just go yellow and fade . On my old ones , one was original and one was a plastic lense and it was pretty bad looking in the end . When I ordered that one replacement years ago I just assumed that the replacement ones were glass too .

Realized the other day that my driver side headlight was out so I ordered up some new 55w HID's to replace the 35w ones I had. Just finished installing and turned them on after replacing the bad bulb. What a difference. Then finished installing the second. I need to go get a new TV tonight since mine crapped out so I will test them out tonight.

Swapped out my wheels. Selling my old ones if anyone is interested. It's the biggest and most noticeable "mod" I've done since buying the 4runner about 2 months ago.

Old first, then new.

Finally received the correct front coilovers! It definitely took some time to get these, but definitely glad they are here. Hope to have them installed tonight or tomorrow night!
