What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Replaced the thermostat and radiator hoses after I noticed it was running hot last week. Thermostat I removed had no jiggle valve. The one I put in had one and I put it at 6 o'clock. Flushed system with distilled water then put in Zerex red. So far temps are noticeably cooler.
Also prepping to camp with some buddies this weekend. Used this cargo net I used for cargo in my Tacoma and hooked it around the interior panels to throw jackets and light stuff up top

Got mostly packed up for a trip to the Domelands. Only thing left to go in is the cooler.

Cherry Hill Rd is open and according to the Forest Service "mostly" passable to Roads End. That means climbing on Church Dome and camping on the river. I'm just getting into the summer zone. Pretty stoked.

Went a bought rack bushings, inner and outer tie rod ends and both lower ball joints. Just did my rack bushings, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow for the rest of that stuff.

Started building my rear bumper

I started building my rear bumper. I wanted to pick a fairly simple design and it has been going great so far. Wrapping it up tomorrow!

Is there any clearance between the bumper and the body panel? If not I'd suggest tracing it and cutting the contour. The body/frame can move quite a bit independently and it'll dent that corner up. Not trying to tell you what to do by any means.

I was thinking the same thing.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, there is a little notch cut out up by the end of the fender where the body bulges.

Today I did the grey wire mod, replaced my ash tray light to a LED, and I combined my rear and front antenna so it works with my replaced kenwood double din.

Hello I'm new to this app/forum. I have a 2000 4Runner that I bought pre-owned 8 months ago. I love this ride but unfortunately the person I bought it from did a crap job at maintaining it apparently. So I just found out the Cat converter was welded on both sides, which is causing my SUV to struggle to drive. Plus the o2 sensors seem to come up bad on a reading as well. Now I find it has two and one is apparently impossible to find. Any suggestions where I can get these parts for a decent price? Also it's already at 200+ miles. How much longer will this SUV last me with proper maintenance? I would really appreciate your input.

Thank You

- Marcy

Previous owner had some plastic headlight covers that were faded and ugly, I removed them a while back but didn't get around to removing the adhesive until today. Still have to do the corners sometime.

At least 200+ more! Mileage on 4runners means a lot less than maintenance history. You say yours wasn't maintained well but it depends what was (not) done to it. I think it's 2001 and 2002's that have the bad transmissions (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so you avoided that. Replace the radiator and lower ball joints, do proper tune ups and you should be good.

Get the parts from Camelback Toyota Parts Factory. I don't know why welding the cat converter would cause problems. There is an O2 sensor either side of it, aren't hard to find unless one isn't there! Best to post photos.

Hi thank you for the reply. Apparently it's clogged and therefore it's causing the truck to have driving issues. Here are the pictures.

Both o2 sensors are there. Just that the reading it got said the Cat Converter and o2 sensors were bad. The guy who I bought it from said he had the Cat replaced by paying for a welding job which apparently is illegal in the state of FL. So now I need to get the entire dog-gone thing because it cannot be re-welded. It's a bit risqué and you could get in a load of trouble from what I'm told.

There should be an O2 sensor upstream and downstream of the Cat converter. I see the one downstream in your photos (there is normally a flange where it was welded but that shouldn't make a difference). There should also be one upstream of the CC a few inches. That side doesn't have a flange, it is flanged further up where it attached with the exhaust pipes coming down form the engine. If you don't have that O2 sensor upstream of the CC that would be your problem.

Edit: posted before I saw your response. They cut off the flange from the Cat converter to the exhaust pipe so it will be difficult to re-use that. I would just get a whole "new" cat converter from a wrecked car and attach it at the flange about 20" upstream. Then order a new exhaust pipe off Amazon for $100. In Florida it will hold up well enough. Get new O2 sensors from Camelback.

That is my advice which would cost about $300 probably + labour if you don't want to do it yourself but it was easy to install my new exhaust system if you are into that.

Others may have a different opinion.

I couldn't get a good picture earlier today so I went ahead and got under my truck and took the best pics I could possibly take. When I bought it there was some sort of cover beneath the engine. After I had it removed I was told it had a bad oil pan gasket. So that was replaced along with the rear main seal gasket. But the main seal gasket apparently also needs to be repaired as well. I have also included the pics from the charging system test I got from Advanced Auto Parts earlier today.
