What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Replaced the gasket on top my t-case with some permatex ultra grey gasket maker. It was leaking from there so I'll see how this works when I fire her up.

investigated why my power window doesn't work. seems to have power to motor, but replacement motor doesnt work either.
what am i doing wrong?

Received a B&M 70264 cooler to install, but need to go get a longer run of transmission hose first. Plenty of writeups on that already, easy to follow.
Also got a MaxTow trans temp gauge. I looked all over and can't find a writeup on that particular gauge, so I'm going to take pictures as I go, after a few initial measurements to make sure it'll fit above the 4wd shifter.

Washed, clayed and sealed! I really enjoy detailing this truck as opposed to my other car which shows dirt an hour after cleaning it. Love the IJM shine.

Pro tip for those 1 or 2 guys on this forum that kept their running boards; don't use rubber dressing to condition them.
Placed my foot on the running board leaving the truck this morning and almost ate it right there lol.

Yesterday I capped off my mod and maintenance weekend with an oil change.

Today, I drove up to Monroe to drop off my 4X Innovations rear swing out off for some black powder coating. With any luck, I should have it back for install this week.

Also, my newly installed Hella Supertones have already paid for themselves. A shiny new Tundra was crawling along in the lane to my left. Without so much as a turn signal, he pushed 2 feet into my lane with nowhere for me to go. Well, you mess with the bull, you get the horns. They are loud and immediately got his attention. So much so, that instead of him making a right, (into my vehicle), he took a left into a parking lot to collect his thoughts. I am happy that they work well and happy that they probably saved us a bunch of money and aggravation.

If anyone is in the fence about getting a horn upgrade, I can't recommend taking a look at these strongly enough. It's a good piece of safety equipment.

Am I crazy? I feel like the OEM horn is so loud.

I have a 2007 civic and I can barely hear the horn compared to my 4runner.

I was just busting you balls man. I'm all about hard numbers as well. I tried so many PID combos on Torque Pro to get trans temp. From using others numbers to working out my own. Literally hours of attempts. Nothing worked for the old 97. So I figured the next best thing was an aftermarket gauge. I wanted to add the trans cooler anyway so now was the time.

There's some pics in this post and I'll put up some more once I get rid of the POS Glow Shift and get the Auto Meter gauge and pillar mount in.

I feel bad you wasted that time. It's clear from the forum that ECU doesn't send Trans temp in the 97. I forget if 98 or 99 was the first year for that, FWIW.

I have a 97 and even though I have Torque Pro and I have SGII, didn't waste time with either, did a manual gauge.

Know anyone with a Scangauge or Ultragauge or Torque Android App? Still using the original fan clutch or did you switch over to an electric fan?

I'd be curious to know if the thermostat even opens up. A three core may be overkill but could work well for those who go offroad in the desert.

Running normal clutch fan

Ambient temp - about 88'F after driving 30 mins

temp at idle = 130'F @lower feed hose, 180'F at upper return hose

temp at 2500 rpm = 138'F @lower feed hose, 172'F upper return

Not all horns are created equal. I'm not 100%, but I think the 4runner horns changed to a more robust truck sounding horn for 2001 & 2002. I have a 2002, but I think one of mine died and it was sounding thin.

There is a difference that might not be easily appreciable that comes down to sound frequency and perceived volume. The tone spectrum that a pair of Supertones offer goes from 300-500 Hz. This creates an unpleasant shrill sounding effect that really excells at cutting through the outside noise, as well as someone's comfortable noise isolated interior.

Waited an hour today calling tire places. Trying to find a deal on BF Goodrich AT KO2 tires in a 265/75/16R. Forums say that's the biggest you can safely squeeze under the stock truck.....Although suspension will probably be ordered up sometime this week. Not too worried.

It looks well made. And since temps don't get too low in the OC I don't think you will have a problem with water not burning off with time.

I am still holding out for some coolant temp numbers out of the OBDII port in the future......:pop2:

cool. I wonder if they make a shorter Tacoma version?

Hey, I'm pretty new to this forum and still trying to figure it out as it's a little different than what I'm used to

Today I installed an amp (last week I put in a new head unit and speakers). The reason I installed the amp is the guy who had it before me royally messed up the speakers/wiring and it seemed like a better solution. When I tried to start it up after the install it acts like the battery is dead. The head unit still turns on but the power light on the amp has never come on. The dash displays all the check engine lights/battery/etc. and it beeps and flashes the outside lights for a while.

I'm going to try a new battery tomorrow. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Hi, the amp may not be wired correctly, you'll probably have to splice the power antenna wire from the radio. One end will come from the radio power antenna out and then be split; one goes to the power antenna and the other to the amp power on, it should be a very small wire.
