What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Finally got around to fixing one of my coolant leaks; this one being with the heater core hoses and valve on the firewall. I took the opportunity to eliminate the rear heater as it was clogged anyway and it looks cleaner now. Pretty nice not having a waterfall behind the dash now when I used the heater (air in lines).

How was the install on the radiator? Been eyeing one hard. Where’d you end up buying it from and do you mind sharing the price you paid?

It wasn't very bad. The prongs that help hold it in place until you get the bolts in didn't line up so I just bent them out. Not that big of a deal. The shroud holes didn't have threaded nuts welded on so I had to use some reg 1/4 inch bolts and lock nuts. Also not that big of a deal except for the passenger side lower one. It was pretty hard to get a wrench on the back side to tighten it. I got it from a eBay company for $202 shipped and it is the 3 row thicker one. It shipped to me directly to me from Champion Radiator.

Ordered 2 front wheel bearings. Because they are SHOT. Koyo from eBay. Same thing as OEM just not in toyota box. And order toyota OEM front wheel bearing seals. Just for all the seals..... $130

Tire rotation, fluid check, brake and suspension components inspection. All is still solid after season of wheeling. Didn't get out much though.

Olympic National Forest Run!

I met up with some people from the 4Runners of Washington FB group. There were 5 rigs, two fith gens, two fourth gens, and me. It was a lot of fun running around out there.

Well we just did this. I managed to be lucky enough to get a flawless set of 2015 Tacoma TRD wheels with tires for $50! He even gave me the new lug nuts! Love the TRD wheels. Wanted to stay with 16" tires so this was a score.

Also got a set of Tacoma TRD Bilstein shocks. Need to know what the cut off years wise for the shocks to fit. I have a 1997 2WD, so I we as told I can use newer tacoma and tundra stock shocks would add a slight lift and give her better ride quality. What years specific can I use on my truck?

Just installed my dash cam hardwire kit with an add-a-fuse tap.

I used an empty fuse bay in the fusebox in the cab for a nice clean install.

Picked up new tires today. Went with 265/70/17 Toyo MT's. This should hold me over until I get my new wheels and lift my truck, and then I will have 4 spares.

In the meantime, 5th gen take-offs look perfect on our 3rd Gens. :thumb:

Tried to conquer P0420 by replacing my front sensor. Nuts came right off, it was a 15 min job. Was feeling great. :reddance:

Took a test drive, CEL came on after about 20 miles. :sniper:

Just ordered the rear sensor. Finger crossed that I won't have to replace the cat.

The front sensor looked pretty toasted so probably worth it at as any rate. I was getting long crank times at startup and seemed better the 3 times I started it after the new sensor.

Hmm I'm confused... I always assumed that if there's an empty fuse bay then there's no power there. I thought the add-a-fuse required tapping into an occupied fuse bay, hence why the add-a-fuse has space for two fuses. Am I mistaken?

Replaced the clutch pedal ignition switch. For the past month I've been using the "clutch start cancel" switch to start the truck ever time. I tried disassembling and cleaning the original switch but that only lasted for a day or two until I started having issues with it again. New switch was $24 on ebay and took less than 5 minutes to install. Problem solved.

Also, I wire brushed the rear diff and painted it a few days ago. Despite what others might say, Colorado trucks do get rust. The paint was flaking off and there was a good amount of surface rust.

I've been meaning to do this for almost a year but kept putting it off because I was worried it was going to be a huge job to do it "right" and not get any over spray on other parts, hoses, brake lines, etc.

In the end it was an easy job and I just said "screw it" and got some paint on parts other than the diff. Who cares, it's just gonna get dirty anyway

I made the same assumption when I ordered my add-a-fuse taps, but sure enough, there are empty fuse bays with ignition power in my fuse box. I used the add-a-fuse I ordered but only installed one fuse, the one on the outgoing circuit.

EDIT: I did not use the 4WD fuse location, I used the upper left, which has no designation on the fuse legend (box with a cross through it) but there is ignition power there.

Just put ~1000 smooth miles traveling for the holiday break, however my wife and I came out to the car from our friends place in LA on Saturday 11-25 to see my front pass. window smashed in. Perp took off with my maintenance logbook?, registration paperwork, my wife's clothes, my Leatherman, and our friend's baby's pack n play thing. Left behind my Scangauge and sunglasses though, quite odd. Luckily we received a great referral to an auto glass repair center and were in and out in 45 min for only $90 (non-OEM glass of course) to replace. Just felt a little violated to know that someone was rummaging through our personal property(!)
