Sunday i changed the fluid in the diffs and transfer case. Installed new rear sway bar bushings and end links. I also took off my roof rack that was faded and peeling and painted it and reinstalled it. Trimmed rear mud flaps for a more manly look.

I decided my life wasn't interesting enough and chose to rear end an uber driver today. There is a bit of damage to his car, no injuries to him or his passenger - but we know how that's gonna go :cry2:



Damage to my vehicle

-satoshi grille destroyed (ordered a new grille from ebay)

-right front fender, pushed in at headlight filler panel (fixable)

-plastic clip that holds headlight filler panel at driver side fender, cracked (replace from junkyard stock)

-ARB left side bumper mount (impact absorber) crushed 1/2" inward (repair or replace)

-driver side headlight housing, mounting tab for grille clip snapped off (repair with epoxy or replace from junkyard stock)

-driver side turn signal bulb out (replace)​

No other visible damage and I should be able to replace/repair all over this weekend, except the grille, so the stock grill will go back on for now. For me this is about $100-150 worth of damage and a day of my time, my insurance premiums however, that is another story.

Good luck man.. down here in Florida they will sue you for anything.. my daughter rear ended somebody and it took a year and a half before they reached an agreement.. total bs.. they claimed permanent neck/spine damage and the whole nine yards..they did get a pay out for absolutely a ridiculous nonexistent "injury ".... insurance went through the roof.. frickin lawyers.... Rant done..

Noticed that the spare tire I lowered to paint the hitch had a broken valve stem:



Not feeling like taking it in, or trying to dismount the tire from the wheel, I gave this kit a shot - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B005K8E9FY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Worked pretty well - first remove the stem:



Then line up the guide tube with the stem opening:



And push till the stem seats (they don't tell you, but it takes a LOT of force to push it through):

Speaking of spare tires, how reliable is a spare from 1998? It looks OK and the one I have from 1997 drove 100's of km fine a couple years ago.

Painted the rear hitch. Now I can't help but notice how crappy the chrome bumper is .

What did you use to paint your rear hitch? And did you take it off to do it?

Finally got the lift and tires. Only problem is my rear suspension is sitting a good bit higher. Does this eventually settle down to level? Its a 3" rough country

That sucks man! It could have been a lot worse though, glad everyone is ok. Will your insurance buy you a new ARB bumper? I would think no, except that I saw one for sale on Craigslist that had minor impact damage and the owner said insurance covered the cost of a new one, hence why he was selling the beat-up one.

I'm not claiming my damage against insurance, I'll handle it myself.

You know ARB has already done the collision tests on the bumper right? You didn't have to perform your own.

FWIW, the bumper is no worse for wear, the impact absorbers (mounts) did their job, now I just need to pull the driver's side out *brandishes 20' recovery strap, looks for a strong tree:

Yeah man. I've always been a shit happens type of guy. Good shit, bad shit, they both happen. It's how you deal with shit happening that tells you what type of guy you are. Keep it moving forward man.

Getting ready for makeover

So last week I had a major coolant leak coming from the rear of the engine. I took it to my friends shop and got a quote to take apart the top of the motor, replace all the cooling lines, full tune up with wires and plugs (the works), and do the timing belt, water pump and all the other stuff that goes with that. I had a major decision because the quote was $2,000 :flame: I did not know what to do . I cannot afford a new car so I decided to do it.

Now I am moving forward with making this truck my dream T4R.

I went to the junkyard and got lucky to find weatherstrips in great shape for $9 so that saved me $100!

Came home and took off the running boards and now it has a much better look.

I ordered Raptor Liner today and will be painting the entire truck with it! I am doing the bumpers, grill, handles, and side mirrors flat black.

I will post pictures as I progress, I will be doing the painting the week after christmas as I leave for Chattanooga soon.

Also, does anyone know why I cannot post in the main lobby? How many replies do I have to do before I can post a new thread to start selling the old parts I will be taking off.

I will be swapping out the interior soon as well so if anyone is looking for that blue color let me know as I am taking it all out.

I used POR15 Top Coat Chassis Black spray. I didn't take the hitch off, but took the bumper off to get better access. I wanted to leave the hitch on because then I could paint all the attaching bolts and nuts at the same time, and not have to turn them after they were freshly painted.

Yeah, funny you should say that - I noticed that my spare tire has a date code of 017, which I deduce to mean 1st week of 1997, which is consistent with when the truck was built (02/97). So my spare tire is now of drinking age, but probably not good to drive on other than absolute desperation time.
