What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Took a log to the sawmill for some new lumber. Weight in the rear is about 1200 lbs and I'm sitting pretty level, but no rake. I'm running OME 891 coils and they took the weight quite well.

A little backstory: I've never had a vehicle with a retracting antenna before my 4Runner.

Guess who doesn't have a retracting antenna anymore?

I read a few threads here about replacement, but does anyone know the Taco year-models that would fit appropriately, or is it simply safe to assume a 2nd gen (or '98) Taco antenna would fit?

Same thing happened to me, but mine mostly survived. Doesn't fully retract anymore, however. :doh:

Just buy the replacement mast. not expensive and easy to do.

Here is the OEM part #'s. Before you pull the whole wire out attach a cable or string/cord/wire to end under the dash so you can fish the new one back thru.

Last night a buddy and me built a hidden winch plate for the 01 fat lip bumper.

Also clean MFA,seaformed intake,adjusted the stretched throttle cable with some zip ties on back of the gas pedal. That Fixed the sloppy gas pedal. Got some Free power!!!

went out to a buddies new property out at the Ky Gorge, my TR4, a 60 series FJ that was pretty built, a stock 60FJ and a gen 5 4runner. I've never been real off road with the 4runner, in some serious decent trails, was amazed how well it preformed. Caked in decent mud but the rain on the way back cleaned off a fair amount. Got it racked at work today and hit it with a hose on the underside. I have got to figure out how to post some pics and not use photobucket here soon.

Looks interesting, but how thick is the steel you used and why only 2 connections points (tow hooks, I know) to the frame? The winch will potentially pull the entire rolling weight of your vehicle, plus any obstruction like mud.

I tend to worry though

Well winch plate started out as badlands Universal winch plate. We used 1/4 plate for gussets and 1/4 angle. Winch plate sets in line with the frame rails has 4 mounting spots where the tow hooks were. So it sits up pretty high. Way out of the mud u will be dragging the skid plate before even touching the winch plate.

Hit the junkyard and got an '02 dash bezel to upgrade my current one. Interesting factoid - the wood on these bezels is real, not fake. Who knew!:

LBJ’s and alignment. Tightened my valve cover bolts a touch, hopefully they’ll seal for a little bit until it warms up again. Plugs, wires and fuel filter this weekend.

The larger one on the left are from Harbor Freight, the red one on the right is from my old truck that I just painted. The paint came off super easily.

I made rubber bushings for them using an old 3/4" ID coolant hose I had lying around. Cut the hose with a hacksaw and ground it to fit on a disc sander. Lol

I really like the bushing idea. I used to hang shackles off my 1st gen and the clanking got irritating.

Personally, I would hesitate to utilize mission critical lifting/pulling gear displaying the word "CHINA" in the forging. There are some nice USA-made options like Crosby or Columbus McKinnon.
