finally installed my rear OME 890 springs and B-5100 struts.

the old stuff was completely gone. struts were rusting away, and wouldn't extend on their own and the top bushing assembly was done incorrectly by the previous owner. The springs, when compressed had about 1/2" gap between each ring.

can already tell the back end is much tighter. very happy. but I can definitely tell that something is clinking in the front end. every speed bump in may parking garage shifts something around. not sure what, maybe wheel bearing? (just installed new UBJ and LBJ and rack bushings.) I have new tie rod end links which need to be installed. I'm thinking go to alignment/brake shop and have them check it out.

much happier with the stance, will have to get some 1/4" or 1/2" spacers after it settles. im still a little low on the drivers side.

found a road being built near fulshear/katy. lots of private property along it but the road is marked as public on gmaps. lots of sand...

truck did pretty good, barely had to use 4lo. it hasn't rained this week yet so the water/mud was pretty minimal. had to use 4lo to get up on that hill though. would be a cool place to take pics if you're near the area.

Put a new front O2 sensor on the '99, 219K miles.

A couple of reasons for doing this. First: The original nuts holding on the O2 sensor (possibly the one installed at the factory? I've owned it since 155K miles) finally crumbled into dust a week ago, and the O2 sensor popped off of the exhaust pipe when I was about 2 blocks from home. No CEL while it was dangling in open air (really, Toyota? Seems fishy...).

Secondly - I have been noticing a sort of wavering loss of power mostly noticed when the engine is cold and you're doing part throttle acceleration. Not missing or running roughly, you just sort of feel the engine going through weak 'patches' in the RPM range. If you put your foot all the way on the floor it pulls smoothly (I'm assuming the ECU goes open loop at WOT?). Sort of like the mixture wandering around out of spec.

Anyhow, brand new sensor on (with copper nuts) and the wavering weakness is gone, it pulls smoothly when cold at any part throttle, no noticeable improvement for flooring it.

Now to wait to see if the MPG improves on the next tank of gas.

Can I ask the part # on that O2 sensor? Assuming you don't have a CA emissions vehicle.

Got my B&M 70264 finally installed, took a while because I got derailed and decided that I didn't like the somewhat random black/white paint scheme behind my grille:





So I decided to paint everything in sight (pardon the redneck masking job):

I used the FI hose clamps (total overkill of course):



And added split wire looms around any potential chafing locations:






Finally, the Magnafine. I wanted to mount it after the cooler, but couldn't find a good location for it, so I put it between the radiator and the cooler:



I was very pleased to see that on the 3 mile hill on my way home, where my trans temps usually hit 205-210, the needle was steady at a solid 180 the whole way. Yay!

Also decided to paint the rusty headlight/grille clips with POR15:

I used a Denso 234-4161 - manual upstream O2 sensor.

AFAIK the main difference between all the non-CA sensors is probably just the harness length. Some are longer or shorter for auto/manual trans, and upstream downstream. Just because it needs to reach a different length to the plug hooked on the outside of the trans.

Getting to that plug on the front O2 sensor is a PITA - at least on my manual trans. I took the shifter boot out and it wasn't too bad. But I have a 1" body lift.

So today I swapped out my lower control arms. The bushings were shot out after 279,000 miles. The steering rack is also leaking and in bad shape so that will be getting swapped out tomorrow along with outer tie rods. The old saying; pay once, cry once applies here. All parts are getting swapped out with OEM Toyota.

Now I cannot wait to get it back tomorrow and enjoy that smooth ride and great steering again.

Damn I was thinking you were gonna say 400,000 or something ridiculous. My 1999 Toyota Avalon was still on it's original fuel pump when I sold it in 2016 with 300,000 miles on it. I wonder why yours failed..

Never can tell I guess. The pump in my 98 with almost 300k was still working fine when I changed it for a 190 lph pump.

Mine gave up the ghost last summer @ around 425k if I recall correctly. Replaced with same so I should be good till 8 or 9 hundred thousand miles... :hat:
