Took off the OEM bug shield to see if my gas mileage improves. And a sunrise shot at Red Rock Canyon, showing off the new clear lenses, unused rubber bumpers from the bug shield, and bug guts all over the front :D.

Un Seized the adjustment platforms on my Toytec Boss coilovers.

Took all the flaking paint off the springs and painted the. Not sure how much paint will be left once I refit using spring compressors! :bolt:

I wrapped the jaws of my compressor with 20ml tape and still chipped the paint on my new springs... so much pressure lol

Thought my LTD was running a bit hot 200 with trans at 175 + so checked to see if the jiggle valve was at 6 which it was . Flushed and filled the system
and properly burped it , parked front uphill about 10 degrees .
Now it runs at 190+ and the trans is around 165 .

Well if my preliminary gas mileage numbers hold up on my return trip, the bug shield is going on the chopping block, since the mileage appears to have gone up almost 10%.

As for the little bumpers, I'll take them off along with the hood and replace them with a bulge hood (the glue is just tooooo strong, or so I told my wife :D).

1.Replaced diff breather valve. Original was not clogged, but did allow for both air to escape from and enter into diff.
2. Replaced original rear heater hoses (underneath passenger seat). Although they were not leaking and could have lasted another 22 yrs., I did so for peace of mind, because of their low cost (around $4 and $6 from local stealership), and their upcoming unavailability. They are specialty hoses that are only available as oem because one end is 1/4 ID and the other end is 3/8? ID:cool:

Completed a whole new front end(all ball joints, bushings, tie rod ends) by getting the new shocks and brakes hoses in. Just need someone to pump the brakes and the tires will go back on.

I will be doing this all soon, except lower ball joints and tie rod ends, those only have 30k on them (Toyota). But I only have one day a week to do the work and have to do the work at my sons 1.5 hours away ( no garage shop or tools here) so it will take me several weeks to do a 2+day job
So then I thought I would just pay a shop to do it......wrong.
two quotes from shops, cheapest shop was 1800 using moog parts, 2300 using Toyota parts ( and camel back I can get all the parts for less than 500)
I had hoped someone would have come in for about 1200

so back to me doing the work....

Pretty straight forward but finagling the steering rack around so you can get the lower control arm cam adjusters out takes some doing. Definitely pop the tie rod ends out and drivers side steering boot off. A piece of wood to push with the jack to angle the direction you want to move it help. Watch Timmy Tool Man's video... AA+

Congrats

An old school milk crate was the perfect height to rest the steering rack when I did the bushings on mine

Replaced my broken air vents with new ones! My old ones were broken and would not stay in place so I had to wedge something between it and the bezel to hold it in place. This is honestly one of my favorite updates so far. Totally worth the money and right up there with the update center console with drink holder and seat heaters. :)

It's the little things!

Did that to my Sons, but just popped the old ones out, went to hardware store and got some tiny nylon thin washers. When you remove the vents, there are “pins” on either side of the vent itself..Put a few nylon washers on each side.. good as new. No more slop and they now stay where you put them.

The holes that the pins go into were cracked on both of mine so there was really no choice but to replace unfortunately. :(

I'm in the middle of renovating my new purchase, tried removing the towing hitch, snapped the head off a bolt and figured the rest would do the same. So I guess I'll just leave it be.

Finished messing about with my ride height, SPC upper arms, and lower cam settings... I say finished, it still needs more attention, and to be done by a shop if I ever find one I can trust, but the steering wheel is straight and I can accelerate and brake without it going all over the place.. so it can't be THAT bad.

Also Finally fitted my front ARB..

Wow I'd forgotten how much I missed it!

The truck now sits about an inch lower at the front, slight "rake" as factory (it was going nose high before) it rides SO much better, now there is some "droop" back. elaborate playing with caster adjustment meant I could get it sitting a bit lower without rubbing - probably jut under 3" now.

Pulled front diff and rear axle assemblies out of my 97 with 4.30's and e-locker....pulling the 4.10 assemblies out of my 02 tomorrow.

You should know where this is going :)

Driving around on vacation in Hawaii and wishing I had the 4Runner with me. All the locals drive 1st gen Tacomas or 1st-3rd gen 4Runners — usually lifted way up with teeny wide tires. But they look cool in their own way. And all the tourists just drive Jeeps!
