What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

A lot of your question is going to center around available funds and what order you want to do your mods in. I went with the lift the user below posted. I knew the whole time that it was a stepping stone to bigger and better things. I knew I would be taking it off within a few years and replacing it with Kings.

My line of reasoning is that shocks/springs make the truck ride better but do not make it perform much better. I wheel a lot and needed money to go towards tires, skids, sliders, front bumper/winch, rear bumper/swingout, lockers and gears. Those items are what makes a rig wheel better, prevents major damage, and allow self-recovery if needed.

When I do go to Kings I will remove my current lift and sell it to a forum member here. I figure I could get about 500 for it. That line of thinking is how I built my rig to where it is currently. If I had an extra 8000 laying around when I started my build I'd have done everything within a few weeks. I didn't so I found an approach and plan that worked well for me.

That lift does just fine on the trails. From a price/performance standpoint it is the best lift for 3rd gens IMO. Did you get different front springs with it? The Eibachs that come standard with that lift are a 620# spring rate.

When I put on my Relentless and 12K Engo winch I dropped about 1/2". Ride quality actually got better with the added weight for me. Once I put the rear on and bumped the back to 861's I was able to go to the second perch on the Taco billies t and bring the front back up an inch. The increased pre-load actually made the truck ride even better. lol

It's all about what your intended use is and how much cash you have on hand. Both of those can change during the course of a build but having a well thought out plan and executing will go a long way in keeping the costs down.

I would agree with you on the lift. For the price it’s not bad for us guys that DD the runner and do a little wheeling on the weekends.

Put on plasti dipped rims and 31" KO2s.
Fixed lighter socket.
Acquired missing window visor.
Found a missing roof rack end cap.

Today was a great day.

Swapped my rear springs for some '99 talls..still not to thrilled about them or the moogs wondering route to go!
Pulled off the plastic rocker trim and cleaned it up and put rust inhibitor for protection.
Added the diff breather mod! Next weekend the other side is all getting rust inhibitor! But the list is slowly going down..

Cheers!

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far, so needless to say the AC was on full MAX and it wasn't keeping up. I bought a cheap food thermometer and put it into the vent, I couldn't get any better than 50° from the system. I hooked up my manifold gauges and saw that the high pressure was around 275 and low side was around 12.

I tapped a can of R134 and slowly added liquid into the system and only saw the high pressure side rise, not the low side. Apparently the expansion valve has failed, so I guess it's time to buy a few more new parts for the old rig. I made it 2 months without having to spend any significant amount of money on the runner, lol.

Looks like I'll be getting a evap core, expansion valve and a dryer, PAG 46 and some o-rings.

Replaced coolant, no pics but it's as easy as drain it all out and fill it up.
Used just over 2 gallons of 50/50 to fill the system.

Replaced transmission fluid using the drain and fill, pump and pour method one quart at a time: 10.5 quarts out, and 10.5 quarts in.
I used a clear 3/8" hose on the output of my aux cooler so I could see the color of the fluid coming out. Pretty easy.

I splashed a bit of fluid separating the line from the aux cooler, otherwise a clean operation.

Fixed my cup holder arms springs by drilling a hole and putting in a screw to hold the spring. Rewired my antenna so it only goes up when the radio is on. fixed a gap between my left front fender and front bumper that happened when someone backed into my car when trying to park in front of me.

Decided that I was tired of the smudge marks on my tailgate from closing it with my dirty hands. So I used the strap on the inside to pull it down. That's when I found out that using the strap pulls me further under the tailgate, such it lands on my nose with a nice crunching sound. I think I'll learn to live with the smudges :).

I'm tall enough to get my hand over the top and close it by the license plate bezel, no finger prints at all [emoji140]

Dog chewed mine off ages ago. Don't miss it.

Did the badly needed power steering flush(screen was totally packed) the other day and noticed this gem from the PO, took care of it today.

What a pain in the nards...
Redid all my auxiliary wiring at the switches and ran wires to the locker switch so I know it’s there at night!

YO.

So, I know it was technically yesterday, but I did the full TB, IACV, and MAF cleaning routine, and dropped some Seafoam.

So much better with all of that done. 232k feels like nothing!

Thanks - T
