New Battery

Been very hot and humid here, June felt like August, and I noticed weak starts and wonky door locks for about 4 days. The heat may have accelerated it but time was up: bought this car 6 years ago and the battery was 6.5 years old. RIP Diehard Gold 700 cca

Money is tight(duh) and batteries seem to have gotten expensive across the board, but I found what I hope is a suitable replacement for a decent price at HD of all places. (No one knew what a core charge was!)

Battery: Exide 24f, 800cca, 960ca, 40mo warranty +nascar affiliation adds 50hp

Took the opportunity to paint my rusty tie-down, give the terminal rings a baking soda bath and coated the clean set up with red goo. I'm now off to qualify for Daytona.

After your baking soda, rinse and dry your terminals, coat them with vaseline to keep them from corroding so quickly. I only need to tend to mine once a year now.

Put some black carpety stuff on the back platform...it was finished plywood before and looked nice but it’s grain went two ways and drove me nuts.

Yeah the felt rings came with the red goo, which in all honesty seems just like Vaseline with coloring. I'll use that next time!

The 98 T4R:
Got a timing belt, wp, t-stat, radiator, pulleys, belts-6.5 hrs (had to pull AC bracket off due to stripped bolt on tensioner)
oil change - 20 mins,
fuel filter - 15 mins,
and rear sway links-10 mins.

The 00 T4R :
New sway links x 4 - 25 mins,
new calipers up front, braided steel brake lines x 3, bled all brakes - 60 mins,
rear qtr duct body vent - 10 mins.
Last week was new alternator - 30 mins.

Love cordless power tools and the right tools for the job!! :eyebrows:

Let us know what you come up with. I don't like the fact that my front bumper is more ornamental than useful in a crash. Makes me want to get a badass front bumper just to get some collision protection .

What's wrong with using old rotors? I just get mine turned (when their still meaty enough) and they've always been good with new pads.

That works, just don't put new pads on an old rotor or vice versa

Borla cat back system and new sway bar links on all 4corners. Detroit axle brand on the links. Very nice by the way. Borla not exactly as I expected much more tame sound than I had thought.

Gave my 96 a little dignity, replaced the fast and furious black seats with a well used set of power leather seats.

I plan on recovering them both, but couldn't stand driving in these terrible black things anymore. First drive home from work was very pleasant!

I impulse bought this little LED light for $1.99 at Menards. It's awesome! Has a magnetic swivel base so I can stick it anywhere on the 4runner. Gotta love Menards. Takes 3 AAAs which were included and puts oput the perfect amount of light for working on stuff. Think I'll get a few more of them next time I'm there.

Mounted my new Rago Fabrications Ditch Light Brackets and LED pods. Also took the time to finally replace the stock antenna assembly with the tacoma base and a stubby antenna.

I don't agree with this.

IMHO, so long as the old rotors are not scored or warped, I don't replace rotors when new pads are installed. Especially if the old rotors are OEM. Never had an issue after 30 years of doing my own brakes on my vehicles.

PS - I always get OEM brake parts.
