I relocated my fuel tank:

The bolts only hold the tow hooks on. If there are no tow hooks, there is no reason for the bolts to be there.

On the ARB bumper I’m using, those bolts are re-used for the new mounting brackets as well.

Pulled the intake silencer, no more IS for me!!

Drove it 3500 miles in 16 days.
Some pavement and some not.
Passed 303,000 miles on the odo.
Saw a lot of cool stock and not so stock 3rd gens and other Toys too and waved a lot.
Have a ton of pics and video to weed through.

And replaced it! I don't know if I'm more glad I had good a/c in the dry desert heat or now that I'm home in the hot soup we call air.


I still have to pull the maf and clean it plus replace the air filter. Compared to last year we fared much better with the snorkel dust-wise. Have a number of little things to deal with plus figure out why the e-locker isn't working.

Finished roughing in my electrical upgrade basic components.

Under the hood, 4 AWG cable from battery to Bussman 100A breaker, to 100A relay, and then 4 AWG cable into the passenger compartment:



On the inside of the firewall, away from heat, dust, and moisture, a homemade acrylic mounting platform, to which I mounted a Bussman 8-fuse box, a ground bar, and a Corolla small relay and fuse box. And a 4 AWG cable from the ground bar to the master cylinder mounting stud:



Now I can start attaching wires for all the electrical gizmos I installed but have not yet powered, yay!

And thanks to [MENTION=168172]sleepydad[/MENTION]'s tip, all fuses will be either Littlefuse, Bussman, or Mercedes Benz OEM AOmega. No cheapo Chinese crap fuses that heat up but don't blow .

Most 3rd gens in junkyard seem to be wrecks..if your 4runner was totaled, i think insurance would cough up maybe 2500, and they take the vehicle.
Replacement to new starts in the mid 30s..used is of course, less.
I don't drive my truck like a rental, i drive it like its a grandma..and defensively, jus sayin.

It was a mod 92 Toy over on Yotatech did that I grabbed and ran with back in 2010. Conveyor belting from Tractor Supply, some scrap aluminum here and there and some head scratching. They're a little hoopty to some people, but have served me well.

I've done absolutely nothing to it lately. Haven't even moved it in probably a month.

The LBJ issue (I wasn't aware of it when I started shopping for 3rd gens) has me afraid to drive it. The UBJ need to be replaced as well and I just don't have the time (I work 6 days a week) or the extra $1000 to have it professionally done.

4 cars, one travel trailer, a boat and an upcoming hunting season means I have very limited time and money spread between them all. I had hoped to have this 4Runner ready for deer season but that isn't looking like it will happen this year. :redbrick:

So in the last month or so I have ran into major issues. All internal switches are starting to fail. Brakes have intermittent hard pedal even after brake booster swap. Heater core valve is leaking. Air conditioning compressor failure. And today my fuel pump I replaced from an Evo that had 50k miles is failing.

I'm about to part her out. Lol. Seems 300k miles is her breaking point.
