Today was an investigation into why the 4Runner was throwing a P0171 code, and the discovery that the previous owner was kinda... Sloppy about working on the truck. Missing clamps on the air intake, filthy PCV valve that was clogged, and a MAF that looked like the desert. Cleaned PCV, butterfly, MAF, and reinstalled everything with some standard hose clamps. I'll look for OEM Toyota clamps the next time I'm in a pull-apart yard.
Tip for cleaning the MAF: Take the whole damn airbox out, and apply a real screwdriver to those two little screws; you can't help but strip them, trying to get them out with a 90-degree screwdriver and the assembly in the truck. Remove the airbox, which is only 3 12mm bolts and a wire connector, then take the MAF out of its housing. When you use a real screwdriver on those two little buggers, and can apply some real pressure, they won't cam out and strip the Phillips head.
I don't have my FSM, yet, but I'm pretty sure that the advice it's gonna give us is to do it like that. If not, well... Consider this a tip.
