...on the left hand side there were 2 connectors just hanging. Are these suppose to be unplugged, I don't see anywhere they should be hooked up

My truck has a couple of those too, in that spot, for options that it didn't come with.

12 wires in total for one side.

I have an extra pair of late model power fold mirrors that i will soon be selling.

Got the gear for timing service ... pulled pads and compressed caliper pistons to diagnose a “stuck brakes” event we had last night, awesome experience if you’ve never had the pleasure! Calipers seem fine and plenty of of pad so I suspect the leaky rear axle seal, Touched-up the undercarriage with some flat black... got the Thule bases in the mail only to find out that the aero bars from the Yukon are too wide! Angle grinder to the rescue and now we’ve got custom extra wide aero crossbars!!!

Sometimes those pita suck moments work out alright

Nothing cool or fun, but got to replace the front seal on my transfer case. Too much sending it I guess. Gotta love playing in gear oil...

Hopefully it's just an old seal and not runout/wobble in the bearing. Did you check it for play ?

No, but it feels pretty solid, if it starts leaking again, ill be more concerned. There was a ton of fine sand/mud in it, so I think a bit just got in and ruined the seal.

new front kyb gas-adjusts tonight. small glitch- had to drill the lower
bushings out to clear the unthreaded part of the 14 mm bolt. 9/16" bit works.

I bought my 98 Runner a month or so ago. It was wrecked in the front and sat for 2yrs. After replacing the fuel pump,NGK TE66 wires, and NGK-BKREKB-11
plugs,and fresh gas, it fired rt up! The engine sounds great! I'm stoked on getting it road ready. Thanks to T4R.Org for all the great info!!

I have to admit Leon I would love to find the engineer who designed that damn tube for Aisin. As I was pulling out the old broke one I was thinking, well now I know why they sealed the newer transmissions . :baby:

As I could feel your minding spinning over those Hilux mirrors in another post, make a comprehensive DIY if you obtain a pair, even though I know your current mirrors are an upgrade.

Late model mirrors (99?-02) and early (96-98) have different designs. The swap was super easy and you'll have to swap all the JDM internals to the USDM housing and USDM door mounts. The early and late model door mounts are completely different and they will not align with the three holes on the bottom. Good luck getting the 3 screws off your USDM mirror, they're held on with loctite and theyre a pain to get off! Also make sure you use a JIS impact screwdriver for them and do not strip them with a regular screwdriver.

Heated mirrors are important to me so i swapped those in too. 2 wires removed then snaked in the new housing. ezpz. Heated mirrors were only available in the US and for 00-02? i believe.

I haven't had the time to hook up the 3-in-1 mirror cover but ill get to that by next week.

Hilux Surf power fold mirrors are pretty damn rare especially for the late model version. Of course you can find honda and nissan PFM for way cheap and they are plentiful on every auction site. I've only seen a few these past years and finally had the funds to buy a pair for myself and a buddy. oh man it was not cheap! so buddy doesn't want it and they'll go up for sale soon.

if only i had proximity sensors and auto dimming then id be right up there with the modern cars. =)

Thanks! I'm pretty familiar with the heated/non-heated mirror differences, and the differences between 96-98, 99, and 00-02 mirrors. And indeed, those three bottom screws are nearly impossible to remove.

So you basically use the internals from the JDM mirrors in your USDM mirror? In other words, if I have white mirrors, and buy JDM black mirrors, I won't need to do any painting because I'll swap the internals into my mirrors? And also I'd want to buy the JDM mirror of the same shape as my current mirror?

And just to confirm, this swap gets you the retract capability and turn signals?
