What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Detailer her. I'm pretty much done modifying this truck, with the exception of an ARB awning in the future. I'm starting to transition to the preservation phase of her life. This truck is completely paid for and I have no plans to sell her for any reason. I would love to open my garage 20 years from now and have her sitting there. She's 17 years young with 187k on the clock and running like a top!

Removed and sold the full brush guard off the Runner today. Got $200.00 for it, dude drove 120 miles to get. I think it was a good price for it. Now I'm in the market for a new front bumper, it's a shame that there aren't more choices out there for bumpers. I don't have a welder and don't want to pay high dollar shipping. Don't really know of anyone local to build me one. I keep checking Let it go and Craigslist every day in hopes one pops up close by for a decent price.

It will be awhile before I get to my bumpers, but I feel the same way. I'm planning to just buy a welder and the steel when I get ready.

Honestly still working on it. Just got my carpet yesterday, special ordered with Mass Backing which is supposed to help reduce even more noise. I will absolutely post more pics when it’s fully installed, hopefully later today!!

You can, but you'll have reweld the exhaust flange in the correct spot to bolt up to the walker exhaust. It's easier just to leave the cats alone until you have to replace them.

Front Forward Suspension Control Arm Bumper 2001

I really need some help!! I had my 4runner towed to a mechanic yesterday for some starter electrical related problem thats been driving me crazy for the past 5 months. Sometimes is would start bust most of the time it did nothing but the sound of the starter groaning. Anyway... I followed the tow truck driver to the mechanic and when we got there he hands me a piece of metal that came from the underside of the car. He said he didn't attached any hook or chain to it but this piece had a bolt cleanly cut off. Called AAA to put in a claim and everything but i just got the car back tonight. One mechanic said it was not a critical piece for the suspension but it really concerned me. So...i started doing some random google searches for control arm parts and an image of the piece popped up. It is a Front Forward Suspension Control Arm Bumper.

How crucial is this piece and where exactly does it go? I read that its important for buffering impact but don't know much more then that. I want to get this fixed and have AAA handle the bill because the tow driver ripped it off.

I apologize if this is a wild message, I"m just a little distraught and worried that not having this bumper piece will cause damage somewhere else in the suspension. Thank you all.

Installed ARB bumper. Might play around with closing body gap. Think it’s normal but I don’t like it.

Replaced front pads with Akebono ceramic and rotors with Centrix. Initial impression is very positive. Much more aggressive bite than the cheapie pads they replaced.:guitar2:

Please post a picture of what you are talking about, if possible. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that you are holding on to a front bump stop, which is an important part, but not life-critical. This part prevents the suspension for metal-on-metal contact with severe articulation.

Made some progress on the carpet. MAN!! Mass backing on a carpet makes this 10x harder! Haha.

I feel like the photo of the drivers floor makes the carpet look dirty, but it’s just the carpet having been brushed over.

But thankfully, the color match worked VERY well with the original carpet and it’s going to look good [emoji51]

In the new purchase maintenance stage -- installed NGK plugs and wires and 'Honda bonded' the bottom seam of the vapor canister. Swapped out a dirty air filter for a FRAM TG and replaced the TPS (NTK). Tightened the trans kickdown, cruise and throttle cable, then had a beer. Productive night/morning.

fog light switch fail

thought I was lucky scoring a bunch of free parts - including the headlight stem with fog switch, OEM fogs and the relay. With heat index of 105 - seemed like a good project day. Super excited to have that nice clear stock look.

connected up new switch to wiring connecter and all lights and turn signals worked AOK. Tried to re-mount new assembly into steering column - nope about 4MM wider!!

checked forum and learned flawed assumption. Later 3rd gens a little different.

Figured I could switch stems and use original switch box- since stem just held in by roll pin. Checked all wiring connections for similarity, seemed like it would work. Nope after taking both apart - see roll pins and stems just different enough to not work.

Got a beer. Then another.

Reassembled like I never wasted 2 hours - will be posting the switch soon for trade with right year! Note to self - ALWAYS check forum when attempting anything - always been done before.

Thank you apohl17, that's exactly what it is. I did a little research and found out thats the piece that got ripped off. I definitely want to get this repaired even if its not 100% crucial. I wonder if there is any additional damage to the control arm from the tow driver hooking up to that. I finally got the tow company that was sourced through AAA to admit fault and am waiting till Monday to hear back about the claim. Much appreciation for the response.
