Scraped some rust and recoated with protector

Replaced passenger lca because of seized up alignment cams. The cheap skp control arm seemed like good quality and fit perfectly. It wasn't any fun, but now I can get my alignment correct for my new dick cepeks that have been sitting in my garage.

Got new wheel bearings pressed in and the manual hubs pressed and torqued down. The knuckles are ready! Will start on the front end rebuild next weekend. Manual hubs, ecgs bushing, poly lca bushings, rack bushings, spc upper control arms.

Changed tire

Realized the standard lug nut wrench ain’t close to a match for lug nuts out on at full torque. Even the jack couldn’t get the nuts to budge.

I assume yours is still running well and strong

Yea, I'm sure a lot of this is simply superficial and doesn't effect the motor too much.

This is only my second time seeing this in person. My '99 Limited 2WD was nothing like this, so I was a little worried.

Runs good. Over 200k with way too many miles between oil changes. Replacing the valve cover gaskets should take care of the burning oil smell.

My rear drums had a ton of gear oil. Cleaned and replaced the shoes and seals only. Not ready to take on the bearings yet, but will soon.



Brakes feel fine but parking light stays on. Dumb to assume I just installed too tight and wait for shoes to wear?

Replaced driver side axle with junkyard spare axle I snagged at 40% off last month. That should keep the seal from leaking until I replace the wheel bearings. Cleaning up the wheel and brake shoes/drum was the most time consuming part of it.

Waxed the hood after hitting it with rubbing compound. Paint on the hood is pretty badly oxidized.

I think I got them on Amazon. Cheapest place I found them for. The part # is FHT-019. Got them for around 95 bucks a piece.

Getting Started

I got the bill of sale; I got the title; I went to the DMV and did all the paperwork: As of today at 1545 hrs, I am the owner of a white 1997 4Runner Limited. I proceeded to spend the better part of two hours vacuuming, scrubbing, vacuuming and scrubbing the perma-grody from the kid-spills left from the previous owner. Some of the smell has abated.

I look forward to bulding and repairing this girl. She needs a head-gasket first and foremost. 240,xxx miles. Automatic. Carpet is roached, seats are sad. But, she's pretty dang straight and looks like she's never left the pavement. (A situation I am fixin to remedy with vengance).
