Today I replaced fuel injectors on wifey's truck, for the 3rd time, lol. The good news is I'm getting pretty dang fast at this. About an hour or so, and back to driving. But please, for the love of Pete, let this be the last time!

Cleaned the throttle body and notice a metal line coming up the firewall that doesn't have a hose attached, but looks like it should. Also, next to it a metal line has a hose attached but runs a foot or s9 then just stops. Any idea what they are?
rear heater lines ?
aftermarket ? Ebay or amazon that claim to be OEM or clones ?

I started with 20 year old OEM. Had them cleaned by a local shop, they said 2 of them were bad, and the others were not so good. So I grabbed some off of Amazon as place holders until I was able to round up some legit ones. I went in thinking "how bad can they be?" Well, the answer is Very, Very Bad. They leaked externally upon install, so I put new O-rings on. Then they leaked internally. They would leak down when the truck sat overnight. The truck ran super rich and started throwing codes. When I removed them, the plastic nozzle caps broke into pieces and fell down the intake runners. After only being exposed to fuel for maybe ten days! (20 year old OEMs were able to be removed intact.) And then I spent an entire afternoon fishing out all the little bits, so as not to destroy my engine. I am just grateful that I pulled them out before they fell apart with the truck running, got sucked in and did some serious damage to my brand new engine build. Just a really bad experience. Injectors are one of the parts were OEM is the only way to go.
So I got a nice set of flow matched OEMs. They seem to be running nicely. But they have only been in for the afternoon, so fingers crossed!

Not today, but this weekend...
Swapped the battery. Changed the oil & filter. Filled the tires. Drove it.
It's been primarily parked for the past 3 years after I got a new car. I usually only drive it a few times a year, but it's been parked for all winter without being moved.
Happy to report that what I thought was going to be an electrical gremlin causing my battery not to stay charged was actually just a bad battery. I didn't suspect the battery because the battery was new as of 1.5 years ago, but it's been running fine the past 3 days with the new battery. No need to jump start it.
Being parked has not been kind to the paint
Goal is to park the car for a few weeks, and just drive this thing to make sure it's running reliably and then sell it. Sentimental value makes me want to keep it, but being a northern vehicle it's too rusty for me to invest the necessary money to get it back in tip-top shape. I then plan to sell/trade my car ('17 WRX Limited) to get a 2010-2013 base Trail Edition if I find the right one.

Absolutely. Someone prevented a potential overheat situation and then didn't clean things up.

Any suggestions on cleaning it up? Pardon my ignorance, how would this prevent overheating?

There are two metal hard lines that run down the firewall along the passenger side frame and back up through the floor to the rear heater.
There are three metal brackets that hold these lines to the body and the brackets crimp the lines to hold them in place and they are a common spot that will eventually rust through. Coolant runs through these lines to provide the rear heater heat, via the controls behind the center console, that comes out from the floor vents under each front seat.
My guess is the previous owner noticed these lines leaking and just capped them off. If left unattended, your engine coolant will eventually all leak out and your engine will overheat.
Replacement hard lines are available or you chop the hard lines and use trans hose instead.
There are two rubber hoses from the heater control (top center of firewall) that feed/return the coolant to/from the two hard lines.

New owner of an older 4 Runner, so the second thing I did today after work was to sign on to this form. The first thing I did today, was to convinced a coworker and his son to tow home my new purchase, my first ever Toyota 4 runner. It is in nice condition, E-locker, Limited model with most of the options. 1997 year, V6 with no compression, thus won't start (timing problem?) - the downside; the upside was the price, $350.00. I am very happy to have it setting next to the barn. Can not wait to tear into it, to see what broke, for the previous owner. He just had new head gaskets and timing replaced a few thousand miles ago. I have owned a Celica convertible previously, and currently have two RAV4s that my wife and I purchased new, and waited a month for them to be delivered from Japan when they were brand new (a 2004 Sport & a 2006 Sport). I just know that I will enjoy this 4Runner, when I get it back on the road.

Made it from south east georgia to denver without blowing my trans up, 3rz boggs on the hills of Tennesse, Missouri, and Colorado. Kansass is windy of all hell. Dodged tornados in Tennesse. Time for oil changes.

Ya... yesterday was pretty intense wind. Once you pass Topeka going west it’s always like that.

Think I gotta save up for a supercharger now. Colorado altitude has got me all laggy on the throttle.
