What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Took him out for a trial run. Up rattlesnake canyon and into big bear. Took a wrong turn and had to back track but man it was awesome! Saw a bunch of cattle, and there were some spots in rattlesnake canyon I though I would get stuck/scrape, but alas I didn't and only had to lock the diff once. So RC3331 to 2N02 to 2N01 to 38 and home. I accidently took 2N16Y (I think that is what it was) and it was a bit narley. It was a blast.

I did rattlesnake canyon about a month ago. Fun trail. I started at the trailhead off the 247 and ended up with all the joshua trees at the top.

Same here, started at 247 as well. Never ran that trail before, seemed really washed out in the tighter area of the canyon. Was quite a few spots with quite big rocks we had to go up (maybe that's normal lol). Was a total blast though, even the wrong turn in big bear. 4 hours was on the trail time, it's a bit of a drive for me to run it more frequently (1.5 hours away).

Saw tons of quail too!

The LED turn signals I installed in the side marker housing were hyper flashing. I tried one of the adjustable speed EP35 relays from fleabay, which was defective. Ran down to the auto parts store and got the Novita EP35 and now it’s working like it should. Buyer beware on the CF14 EP35 relays from EBay.

Apparently everyone enjoys a good 3rd gen!

Detailed the inside (so much dust) and washed Forrest. He is now shiny and clean and ready to go back to work Monday lol. Vacation was good and fun. Mostly spent doing work on the 4runner, rear hd springs (ome 891) lc80 rear shocks and rear 2nd gen runner end links, front b8 5100 bilsteins and 2ng gen end links, an alignment, hid retrofit, new trans cooler w/fan and , flushed ps fluid and took reservoir apart and scrubbed the screen clean and routed the return into the old trans cooler. And of course ran a few local trails. Was worth it 100% wish I could have gone out and traveled more but had to use my vacation asap.

As for the trans cooler, it's fricken awesome! I pushed the trans hard a few days back and it was 98 degrees out, only got to 208, that is when the fan turned on and trans cooled off fast. I do question the scangauge's trans temp accuracy though. Trans temp said 208 and the thermo switch is 180 on (tested to turn on at 180 degrees in boiling water with a meat ten thingy). So I'll probably be installing a real trans temp gauge soon.

Anyways, today I enjoyed the ownership of a 3rd gen.

Got eimkeith's PCK brackets welded on. Excited to see how it changes the vehicles handling once I get the axle put back on.

Also got the Dobinson 210v springs for the rear. Going to pair with the OEM Black Tokico 80 Series LC Shocks.

Did my 231mm TBU today. Absolutely ZERO clearance issues with the 2002 Limited 5-spoke wheels.

The last pic is of the wheels I'm running.

All went well. Except I have squishy brake. It don't work well. Tomorrow i figure out why. Maybe need to bleed all 4 corners?

are those progressive springs ? and thanks for posting the pictures of the brackets, for some reason I thought only one was used....just starting to learn about those, makes more sense to me now. Do they fit tight before welding, is there a possibility of getting out of alignment ?

Yea they are progressive springs.
Yea they fit tight. The frame one you can slide the bolt through the top hole and that holds it in place. The axle one is cut to fit pretty much perfectly so there's really almost no movement at all.

Looks good.

Try bleeding with the engine running.:high5:

Ive tried jus about eevrything I can and I still have a very long throw before I get any kinda of pressure(first push, then it gets harder). Defenetly bleed with the engine. I also used tech stream to operate the abs while bleeding. I think unless we modify the master cyclinder or something we gotta live with it.

Thanks, will try today. Why would that make a difference? Just curious

I believe the ABS is only on when the engine is running on, though I could be wrong here. Up to about 2015 model years I have gotten the best bleed out of all Asian makes with the engine running.

If it is still problematic, I would take out the ABS fuse and bleed again. Also I found that new ss brake lines help.

Since you have an 01-02, you may try a computer bleed with a scanner if the engine running doesn’t work. With my little Launch X431 I can bleed the system on 01-02 4Runners but not from 2000 and earlier.

Experimented with some gauge mounting options - easy to see, not blocking the road, and preserving the grab handle.

Okay, I'll give that a try. Also, what do you mean by ss brake lines?
