What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Starting Friday afternoon, I drove from the Seattle area to the Denver area. Not sure of the actual weight but I'm guessing 400+ pounds in the cargo area and 50-100 on the rear carrier. Up and over all the mountain passes running AC occasionally and probably averaging 80mph I netted about 18 mpg. Not bad for the old truck... just wish I had a better seat, lol.

May be time for a suspension refresh. The springs popped back to life once it was unloaded but I just feel bad for the old girl.

I got the 4Runner checked out today at AutoZone (no scan tool but will buy one soon) and got the classic P0136 which is the o2 Sensor knowing the studs are rusted to shit and won't be able to remove the 2 bolts without fighting it.........

Did my oil change, and tried a Napa Gold filter (1516) for the first time ever. I’ve ran OEM filters ever since owning the rig as of 2013, so I’m excited to see if there’s any noticeable differences in oil filtration. I also took my very first sample to send off to Blackstone Laboratories for a used oil analysis, which I’m really excited to see how it comes back

They came mismatched from the factory. It was 3/3

2 of the plugs he had put in were single electrode instead of dual.

Yeah man. Can't recommend the AJT case enough. If you gotta wait to spend the $30 though, super glue can do the trick.

Few insignificant things done over the past month that have always bugged me. Buddy in TX located a non-dented original IJM bumper cap to replace my dented one.

Replaced the torn passenger front plastic vapor cover with a perfect used replacement from the yards (these are discontinued so only option is used).

I found myself a seat on the jiggle valve bandwagon.

I was seeing 210 on the Torque app so I figured rotating the thermostat was worth a shot.

As with anything, it didn't go as planned.

The lower right nut came off but it came off with the stud.

After a trip to two dealerships for 90116-08270 I got it put back together, refilled and burped with the jiggle valve in the 6 O'clock position.

The guys at the dealership were surprised to see the "typo" in the FSM and fought me tooth and nail on it but the numbers don't lie. It was hotter today and I had the A/C blazing.

210 might very well be just fine but 194 sure feels less stressful.

Finally got access to my stimmy so I'm treating myself to a new headunit and front and rear speakers. Ordered some kilmat as well and the components for the taco whip. Super stoked to have some projects to work on coming up, and just in time for summer driving.

Transmission Fluid Flush

I've put 45k miles on this 4Runner since I got it in 2012 and hadn't touched the transmission fluid. The new radiator and coolant flush last weekend went well so I figured it was time.

Only got about 4.5qts out of the pan and it sure wasn't pink.

Working solo so I only got a few pics.

Went with Valvoline MaxLife. Pumped a total of 16qts, 1 at a time, refilling with new as I went. 1 qt out, 1 new qt in.

I didn't have time to check the color coming from the hose. Each qt only took about 10 second. I'm hoping that extra gallon or so was enough to do the trick.

It sure seems to shift smoother. Now part of me is just waiting for the leaks.

I added a Magnefine filter while I was at it, too.

I wouldn't have attempted 90% of the work I've done without all the helpful posts and videos I've found here. Thank you everyone!

Got her out of storage. It has been a long winter. 7 months mothballed and she fired up instantly as always. Nice to be driving her again.

I also put on the new OEM Toyota rear shocks I bought last summer. Took off the bilstien 4600s. The billies held up well, still look great after 8 years but I got tired of waiting for them to break in. Hated the rough ride. The Toyota’s seem softer. Now to think about the fronts.

While messing about in the back I enlarged the drain hole in the upper shock mount. Hopefully that will help prevent the dirt accumulation up there and the rust issues that follow. Went 3/8 for the hole.
