rear springs, ( talls) kyb's and ireinstalled my trailer hitch...what a pain that was. have a bad rear sway link and nobody in town has them, not even the dealer. I had forgotten what a pain the upper shock nuts can be. put in new H-4s. p.o had put in some LED headlight bulbs and they were not good, very short throw.
was gonna change the front diff fluid. fill one came out...drain.would not budge...so that will have to be another day

The 99 Limited has been sleeping for 4 years now. She finally woke up and decided it was time to get dressed up and dance.
Lol, I had some problems years ago and never followed through on solving the problem. After putting thousands of dollars into new clothes and shoes, she ended up losing interest in me and went to the side yard.
++The key was getting stuck in the ignition and wouldn't disengage. I changed the tumbler in an effort to do a quick non-thinking solution. The old "transponder" key sat in the glove box....so it started. Then I cleaned her out one day which included that transponder key.....went over to start her up a few weeks later and she wouldn't fire. I had no idea what I had done to make her so mad but she wanted nothing to do with me.
So, recently, when she whispered in my ear that she wanted to dance again I tried to start her up. Nothing!! Damn it man, wth is the issue? After a few days of investigating and tinkering and talking to the stealership I realized i needed that transponder key to be able to dance and save myself lots of money.
My 17 y/o daughter, being the packrat she is had taken it and put it in a box in her room, after a conversation around dinner it dawned on her what we were talking about and she just got up and walked away and returned a few minutes later holding the key saying, " Is this it?" ....so we found it, and now we're dancing again!
Life is good my friends!

The key being "stuck" sounds more like worn shifter bushings (auto, keeps the safety stuff from working right) than cylinder issues.

And if you only have 1 transponder key, it might be time to fix that. I have 4 after receiving the vehicle with 1... not being able to use the vehicle because you don't have a working key is the cheapest, most preventable kind of idiocy a person can encounter. It's pretty much ALWAYS the first thing I do with/to/for any vehicle I purchase (because no one sells anything with more than one key... or at least that cheap junk I buy never comes with more than 1).

Nope no upgrade at this point. Not sure what is causing the issue.
Did you follow the FSM procedure for bleeding the master on the vehicle? It requires removing the two brake lines at the master, depressing the pedal, plugging the ports with your fingers, then releasing the pedal. Repeat a few times, then reconnect lines and bleed the rest of the brake system. You could also have air trapped in the ABS pump/valving. Try getting the ABS to activate on a dirt/gravel road and bleeding the system again.

New member here. Thanks for the ad! Here’s my 00’. Just finished installing JBA’s UCA’s, energy lca bushings, and mounting my DIY 270 degree awning.

Scored at the junkyard this weekend. Pulled an almost perfect fully assembled tailgate , 01-02 tail lights, and full sport interior trim pieces. Also took off my roofrack.
I really need to find a new IJM hatch since mine was damaged when I bought it, then I backed up into a broken tree trunk just below the rear window height and made it worse.
Replaced the front stabilizer bar brackets and swapped in a new master cylinder. However the master cylinder didn’t fix my soft pedal issue. Bench bled it then bled the wheels and still no fix. Bled the master cylinder while mounted and alas the problem is still there. Only thing to check now is to see if I can bypass the abs somehow to see if that is the soft pedal issue.

It is really begin to frustrate me.
My pedal is soft, but tolerable with the 231 TBU and I seem to remember reading that the ABS pump has been the cause of some people's issue. I'd like to try swapping mine out and see if it does the trick, but they're not cheap used, and over $1k new.

got it aligned after doing LBJ,s and OTRE's all within spec. however the shop said the front end is all good and solid and looks as though the upper ball joints and control arm bushings look fairly new for an old rig. Previous owner only owned 1.5 years and little records. thats why I did the LBJ's....our 4runner design flaw..was prevetative.
however....of course...he said rear bushings are loooking a little old and the driver side lower rod is bent.....kind of knew that.....as i also did new springs and shocks in back and saw lower arm was a little bent. but it will get me through winter....adding to my spring summer list

Purchased a new front bumper, ARB 3423040, from Bumper Superstore. In stock, will be here next week confirmed.
Purchased all new control arms, ball joints and tie rod ends. Just went out and sprayed everything w/ PB blaster in anticipation of the work.

If anyone has any builds for those two projects that would be cool to see some links. But I’m sure I’ll be ok.

Lemme know how that goes. I thought about replacing mine but it would be QUITE the bill, unless you got super lucky and snagged a matching one from a junkyard :pout: :pout:

Agreed on the transponder key, thats on the list.
I should probably clarify the word "stuck" better. What I mean is when I turn it off it wouldn't go any further left than the ACC point. Then I wiggle and jiggle and mess with the gear shifter and sometimes it breaks free and most of the time not.

Can you better explain what you mean with the shifter bushings? I'm unfamiliar

Painted grill

Painted the grill black. It was the last bit of chrome on my 02 4Runner.

Yup, that's the exact issue. It's due to worn bushings (or poor assembly) of the shifter. I fought it myself when I got mine... this stupid piece:

Here's the write-up for replacing the (upper only?) bushings:

Loose Shifter? - Replace your shifter bushings! - Write up with pictures

Auto Trans Shifter Bushing Replacement & Transfer Case Shifter Seat Replacement (3rd Gen 4runner) - YouTube

That video will probably give you all the details you need (though I didn't watch to verify, Timmy and Sean are usually Very good about their videos.)

Plenty of other threads in the forums too, if you feel like searching for different angles of describing the whole thing. I didn't find any change/benefit to changing the shifter bushings, even with 2 mostly disintegrated. But the key being let loose from the ignition every time was worth it.

The boots on my rear end links tore, so I found these aftermarket replacements. They are very beefy and have a zerk to add grease. Beefy and a zerk must be good, right?

We'll see how long they last.
