Nerd type here. Your post sent me down a rabbit hole learning about torque, preload, and friction. I only wish you'd posted it a day earlier, before I bought new 10066s for a wheel bearing job. I thought I was being responsible replacing them before reusing them for the third time. The more you know... Thanks for the info!

One of the few guys I watch everything he posts up. How’d you like the cerakote? Been wanting to try it on some faded pieces of my Tundra.



As for what I did today, pulled the running boards off lol. Will be picking up some 5th Gen 4R wheels in KO2s to put on this weekend.

It did great. I noticed the biggest difference on the cowl cover, pumper step and parts of the roof mont. Definitely read the directions before using it.

When I pulled the thermostat off of my 2000 limited V6 with ~160k miles, this piece of rubber was wedged in behind the thermostat. The thermostat gasket was in place and looked good and there were no signs of leaks. The thermostat was marked "99" so I'm pretty sure it's the original.

Any idea what this is? I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure it doesn't belong.

Weird. Wonder if someone wedged it in there to keep the thermostat open. Boil some water and dip the thermostat and see if it opens up.

I bet it’s an old thermostat gasket that goes shoved up into the coolant channel.

Hi, this wasn't done today but it was the last mod I did so I'm counting it swapped stock steering wheel for an A80 MK4 Supra wheel, AMA!

Thats pretty cool. I was just looking at junk yards online that have 4runners in the yard. Vegas has a few pick parts I might check out. My wheel is falling apart and it would be nice to find one in good shape. I did this with my prius a while back it due for the 4runner.

I doubt ill find any supras but good to know haha.

Finished wiring my ARB compressor. I tried tapping the diff lock light in the dash so it would light up without realizing Toyota used ground for a signal, not positive :frusty: I'm thinking I can pin a wire into the ground position of the e-locker plug, as I understand it ground should be pin #3 which was used on Tacomas to get the switch to illuminate. Can anyone think of why this wouldn't work?

In the same boat with my own 01, but when I clear mine it doesn't come back for weeks..

Reader hooked up for TPS info P0440 pending for a week then set.
We'll see new gas cap, clear, I/M not enough run time yet.

When yours sets P0440 what dash lights came on ?

I get check engine VSC off VSC/TRAC

haha, I got that wheel off ebay! I think finding one at a junkyard would be a lottery find. It feels fantastic in the hands (as it should) but if you want to keep cruise control you might pause for consideration

Replaced the inner and outer tie rods today. Was planning to replace just the inner but was thinking the jam nut wasn't going to come loose due to corrosion so I replaced the outer just to not waste any time. As for how I got the boot out, I cut the skinniest part of the inner joint out with a hackzall to get the boot out......
