Rig is looking good, man. Time to set aside some funds for a suspension upgrade now.

Thank you sir! I actually did a suspension upgrade about 3 weeks ago and just forgot to record it. I ended up going with Moog suspension parts all around with the exception of KYB struts in the rear. Per your advice I quit agonizing over what to get and just decided to jump in try something, and figure out what I like! I like Moog parts a lot so we'll see how well they fare! I see Bilstiens in the future though. It rides way nicer...doesn't feel like I'm riding on bump stops the whole time. I didn't lift it any, just restored factory height which ended up bringing the truck up a good 1 1/2" or maybe a little more. Deleted the running boards too so it feels and looks taller! Next thing I want to do is replace the radiator. Would you guys recommend installing an external transmission cooler as well? If so where would you recommend mounting it? Thanks!

checked my fluids today...so what...live out here in the out backs of north east Alaska...daily driver. hasn't lost a drop of any fluid since October ( I do check it as often as I can)...but today hit 16 degrees ( hot spell) ....digging out my area....thought why not check today..
love this rig.....no fluid loss in months... looked underneath...all dry.. and no oil on the inner side of the rear tires ( seals).. rear valve cover half moons dry...transfer case etc are dry ( up here in 4wd in October and don't turn off till April) tested my locker the other day and it worked fine

these are great rigs.... toyota did something right

Practiced 3/16" double flares on brand new nickel copper lines in preparation for the front brake line replacements. Lisle 33260 flaring tool is fantastic and practically idiot-proof. Not a single bad flare except for one which does happen. Did like 7 of em. Once I get my fancy bender tomorrow i'm ready to start making the real deal.

Unlike 3bears environment, it is ridiculously rare to see ANY measurable snow so close to sea level AND the coastline here in CA. So I had to take a slight detour on my trip down highway 1 from SF to Monterey today. For locals, this is along Highway 35/Skyline between La Honda and Skeggs Point (ECDM for MTBers).

Finished a 2500 mile road trip, and got to play in some snow. The truck did great on the trip, and averaged 16.9 mpg, which I call a success. Oddly, it averaged 15.9 mpg on trip up to OR, and 17.9 on the way back to CA.

The only damage was an antenna mast that decided to jump out of the base at 80 mph, so I'll need a new one of those. And my Strongarm 6815's finally gave up the ghost after 5 years, so they need replacing as well.

That's because Oregon doesn't put as much ethanol in their gas, if any. More energy density so you get more mileage per gallon.

I got 21 MPG on a tank of 92 octane in Oregon once. Also my Strongarm 6815's failed after 6 years too, not working so well this winter. It seems that is their lifespan.

I was suspecting a different gas formulation in Oregon, that makes sense!

Strongarm 6815's are now made in China, so I bit the bullet and ordered a set of OEM cold weather spec liftgate supports. It's a bit more money than 6815, but it's OEM, and comes with all new pivots and brackets :).

Yeah I saw that on Speedy's thread, I had no idea there were two kinds. I'll also be ordering a set in March as my old grommets and such are toast and would benefit from all the little extra bits they come with!

Did some fluid changes today.

Switched over to synthetic with Mobile1 High Milage with a Purolator filter and also added some of that Liquimoly Ceretec. Definitely noticing smoother idle and smoother at 70+. Also a little better throttle response at very low revs where normally I would have a little hiccup if I didn't downshift. We will see how mileage improves on the next tank but so far I'm happy even though that Ceratec did double the price of the oil.

Also changed the gear oil to MT-90. This stuff is possibly the best 60 bucks I've spent on my truck. Notchy shifting is gone, especially was an issue in 1st and reverse. Stick feedback is very reduced. You guys weren't kidding about this stuff, totally worth it. Transmission should be happy for quite a while, especially when I saw what drained out. I could see through it while draining but can't see the bottom of my catch pan I put it in. There was definitely some brass glitter in there too so I'm sure my synchros are breathing a sigh of relief right now.

Next on the list is OTREs and an alignment scheduled for next Wednesday at a shop that deals with offroad rigs so hopefully that helps my highway handling. Really hoping my LCA bushings aren't seized to the cam bolts, going to douse them in PB for a couple of days beforehand. Also want to do a full brake flush at some point (also maybe a clutch flush) and a flush and screen cleaning on the rack as well as finally putting on the ES rack bushings that I've had sitting around since Christmas.
