Decided today was the day to replace the timing belt and water pump. Worked out well, because as I pulled into my driveway several days ago from a Colorado trip I could hear the water pump making a grinding noise. Sure enough, pulled it and it's hosed, so far so good. I started on the tensioner, no dice I need a short 12mm which of course is the only one I DON'T have :embarassed: . No worries, I'll pull the cam gears...
:frusty: That's NOT supposed to look like that!

I have noticed the occasional backfire every now and then, hopefully this is the culprit, I can't imagine the timing was that off however?? Sadly, I have to wait until monday to get to the junkyard...

Ordered new contacts and plunger for my starter. Yesterday in the middle of the desert it started to just click once and not start. Luckily it started after a few turns of the key.

Went to the junkyard and snagged some bits for my 3G interior. The dome light/sunglass holder I found at the yard still had the little nubs for the garage door opener in it!

assume ur talking about the tcase off to the side of the fuel filter I was trying to highlight in the pic...? thought id posted a pic of said at some point

You probably did...I forget things, even cool things. So yep, the atlas. I wasn't sure what the fuel filter was, but that makes sense.

Poor thing. RIP. What was the moment of failure like - just a cessation of forward movement? Noises? Did it whine for a year prior (like mine)?

took it on what would've been an 8k mile round trip to Alaska and back, off roading where I could find it and loaded with ~300 pounds. almost made all the way back. at around 5k miles into the trip I started getting rough shifting, and code p770. tried a few trans drain and fills. helped a while but then started whine noise at around 6k that went away when warm. I was determined to get home because of some family things that came up. at around 7k I noticed a loss of power and a rattle, few hundred miles later A/T temp light came on and lots of winning. I pulled over to let it cool. did that a few hundred miles, drive then let cool. then in the home stretch during a steep segment of highway the light came on and the engine raced getting no power to the wheels and there was some smoke. I knew it was over. now, when the fluid is cold, it will only crawl at walking speed on level ground, most of its torque getting lost in the sloshing fluid it seems.

Got my starter out to rebuild it and found out it wasn't the OEM one and the 2 breathers on it were broken off. I ended up ordering a Denso one. If I would've known it wasn't the OEM one I would've just ordered the Denso from the start.

Found out my #2 cylinder has 40#. Not good. I wish I could post a new thread to get some advice here but I'm new so no new posts for me.:noidea:
