Having my 4runner sit and take a break for a week while I drive my new used outback with 230k. Trying to sort it out before handing it to my wife. Timing belt kit ordered and on its way for this saturday. Dont worry. The 4runner stays in the family. Selling the acura tl. For the outback beater.

LOL, my 2nd daughter was born on the 25 of Sept, so I have no time for anything anymore. Today, I stopped by the carwash for a "quickie".

I love my PC. I've had one for like 8 years. I still need to detail the 4runner before the weather shifts and I don't have the time to do it.

At this point, I'll be happy to hand buff it with Meguiars cleaner wax. It's going to get cold very soon. I've already written off this year to properly detail it.

They did a really shitty job of detailing it before I bought it. I need to get the swirl marks out and get it waxed and sealed before the "el nino" we're supposed to have. For the most part she stays dirty because I've been off road every other weekend, but I'd still like to keep the paint somewhat decent for now.

Figured out that my rear squeak was from the poly bushings on the rear sway bar links, I have a bad front wheel bearing, the start to a tear in a CV boot, and my sway bar is hitting my tie rod end??!?!? This happens when I'm turning and hit a bump like the curb into my driveway. I have 885's on 5100's set at 0, poly sway bushings, new sway links, and the sway bar relocation blocks which I think only makes things worse.
I had to spend yesterday and today refitting the rack because it was a little too wide at the front. (Last time I was too tired after a full day to redo it, so I left it). Also, did a DIY wind fairing, and bolted the jerry can holder back on. I'll eventually have to figure out a way to get it higher up, because it's terribly close to the roof.

For the fairing, did you make your own template or get one from here? Also, what material? About to tackle mine this weekend.

The attached PDF is his template from his build thread.
I used this post as a reference, though I ended up free-hand cutting it for the most part, and had to get creative because I couldn't find the same materials he used.
I used:
24 x 48 sheet of acrylic (cut with jigsaw down to about 7 x 47, rounded edges, tapers width upward)
generic round head screws
generic metal strips, which I had to drill in my own "sliders"
black plastidip
I couldn't find any similar weatherstripping locally, so I might have to order that one from his link. Without the weatherstripping, it cost <$35.

I take it the red brakets is it. Who makes the one you have, how well does it work, sturdy? any info I would appreciate.

Congrats on the new baby Ed! I don't think we're quite ready to have another little one running around yet, but we're starting to gear up for it.
But don't feel bad. With building the house taking up all my time this year, I've neglected caring for my 4Runner and commissioned her as a construction vehicle. Now with the house "finished", I'm finally getting around to taking care of the truck. And it started with a trip through an automated car wash, but then I followed it up with a hand polishing. I don't have the time to spend all day caring for the truck, especially since I own 3 vehicles, so I have to pick my poison. If I want to hand wash, then that's about all I can do. If I want to wax or polish or do other detail work, I use the automated as a base to work from. Not ideal, but it does the job.
It's not like when we were young and single and could wash the car every Friday after work so that it'd be shiny for the weekend. Grown up problems...

LOL, I just took mine through one the other day too, trying to get rid of the spots that it got at my old parking lot. They were still there after the wash, so I had to remove them by hand anyway :wtf:

Yes that's it. I can check the brand later for you. Seems pretty sturdy but it came with the rack and I haven't had a chance to use it yet so I can't vouch for it right now.
