What did you do with your 4runner today?

These Oracle halo assemblies are on there way and should be installed this week on my '06 white SR5.
now did they took apart the housing by baking them? or by cutting them like on there video?

It gave me something to work on during the heavy thunderstorms that came through tonight.
I drilled the center out to 5/32" and tried using an allen key with no success. So I grabbed a T25 impact bit and hammered it in with a 4 lb sledge, then turned the torque all the way down on my 1/4" impact driver and went to town on it. It popped right out, no damage to the caliper as far as I can tell. I blasted air through it to clear out any metal shavings, and I'll probably just put the regular bleeders back in.
Hopefully the weather is more cooperative tomorrow so I can wrap this up.
good job. i never thought about 5th gen brakes on a 4th gen. i am interested to see/hear the results. Is there another thread on the swap?

Funny you mention that. I have the nerf bars on my '09 and I want to replace them with the platform style oem running boards. I come from using trucks with running boards the size of a boat dock. I never have like the tube style bars.
They're even less useful than the running boards, strictly for looks I guess lol. But hey, if you're near Buffalo, they're for sale ;-)

Finished installing my re-engineered HVAC lights.................. yeah, back to the drawing board.
Dremeled the crap out of the assembly behind the LCD screen. Rigged up a platform for the LED strips.
Not the desired effect. Having reverse polarization is a PITA (if you want to keep it orange). Already coming up with ideas to "fix" this. (different light diffuser, more LEDs, unicorn horn dust, I dunno....)

I finished upgrading my front brake calipers and rotors to 5th gen parts:

The swap went fine, no issues at all with the new parts. I decided I'm not using speed bleeders anymore, after I snapped one off inside my brand new caliper. I took care of that and managed to avoid damage to the caliper threads- I guess that was my fault for not paying attention and tightening them down too far. I like the new style calipers much better, and I sure hope they live up to their expectations.
My front brakes had gotten really bad, so it feels like a huge improvement, but until I drive it some more I cannot tell for sure how much better than stock it is. Today all I did was drive it down the road and back to do the brake bedding procedure for the Hawk LTS pads and make sure everything works okay. I'll be driving it to work all week to get a better feel for it. I think I still have some air in the system, because the pedal does feel a little spongier than it did before I messed with it.
Of course, I totally forgot to pump the brakes 40+ times before I started, like I did when I replaced the rear calipers. Hopefully I didn't screw something up. My ABS / VSC OFF / VSC TRAC lights have been on since before I changed my faulty wheel bearing, so I still have some things to address before I'm completely done. I'm hoping that is related to a stretched wire or something easy/inexpensive to repair. We'll see...

I hadn't thought of 5th gen brakes, either. I actually stumbled across that thread by accident while I was searching for NAPA part numbers for the seized front calipers I found. This was the second caliper issue I've had in 6 months, and anything I can do to avoid the issues you all have had over the years is worth it!
I highly recommend the 5th gen brakes, especially to those who are going to upgrade their SR5 or Limited to the larger Sport Edition rotors. If there's a chance these are more reliable, it's worth every penny to me.

the bilsteins I believe will ride better, and I think you'll be please with them paired to your Fj coils.

With all of the hoopla made over the "irreconcilable differences" in the optical requirements between hid projectors and halogen projectors, i don't find that to be the case with this kit in my 06 4runner. Cutoff looks sharp and no highbeam flashes so far.
Clearly as sharp of a cutoff as a HID projector/bulb combo... :naughty:

For one thing you're comparing a beam shot from 30-40 yards away to one much closer. For another that pic was taken prior to me correcting the aim on my driver's side headlight (nothing to do with the HID swap).
Finally, I didn't say it was just as good, I said the difference wasn't worth the extra time, complication, and money to me. If razor sharp cutoffs is what tickles your pickle, go for it. Personally I just like the increased light output.
