There's a guy on Craigslist that Plastidips whole cars for $500. the look like Crayola cars.

Today I washed the Runner and did a light test on it... A few weeks ago I was trying to decide if i should order a set of fog lights for it when I ran into something more helpful. Well I opted to buy this crazy flashlight and today I did a test to see how it compares to my normal headlights. Open for opinions.

Started addressing some minor issues today so it will pass inspection next time I take it in.

Out with the old, in with the new:

Took my time cleaning the battery cables, got it all back together and then proceeded to FREAK the **** out. It kept stalling out and wouldn't idle unless my foot was on the gas.

I've never had that happen before and thought I got something too wet when I rinsed off the battery terminals after cleaning... then I thought about all the pics I've seen here of 4Runners submerged up to the door handles and I figured I must be wrong.

I started thinking it was related to the ECU, so I unhooked the battery again to reset it, and cleaned the TB while I was at it.

Started up fine on the first try and runs like a champ again.

Now I need to address the inner CV boot clamps, hopefully I will get to those tomorrow.

I hope that pic of your TB is before you cleaned it..

if not all that black gunk at the top and bottom of the butterfly valve is hurting you as well. It may run but your sucking gas at idle and barely getting air in. there should be a gap at the top and bottom of the valve when it's closed.. your gap is filled with gunk lol..

Yeah, that pic was before I cleaned it. I opened up the valve and gave it a thorough cleaning. It's nice and shiny on both sides now. I forgot to take an "after" shot because I was in a hurry to get it put together to see if it would run better.

Not sure about a regular interval of cleaning it, I mainly just do mine if I see my idle RPM's getting low like around the 500rpm area.

and use CRC brand "throttle body cleaner" lol you can't miss it at the parts store. Also grab a can of CRC's MAF sensor cleaner as keeping that sensor clean helps MPG's and efficiency as well.

I thought I read somewhere that 10,000-20,000 mile intervals are a good rule of thumb, but it will vary based on your driving conditions. I've made it a habit to check mine on my vehicles during oil changes and just clean when needed. It gives me something else to do while I'm waiting for the oil to drain. I find I've been cleaning the TB on my wife's V6 Escape every other oil change, which works out to every 10-12k.

And like A-Ha said, I recommend the CRC brand. I use their stuff for everything, and it always works great. I haven't cleaned the MAF sensor yet on my Runner, but I will probably do that today. I already have several cans on hand because I also have a VR6, lol. I should buy it in bulk.
