What did you do with your 4runner today?

Yeah most expo guys go for the pizza cutters. and I second that, 295's or 305 70's are most likely what I'm going to when I'm done with these Coopers.

Ok so let me ask a question that's probably going to get me flogged, but here goes anyway. Please explain to me the tire size differences... Example: 265 ?/ 70 ? / 17 Rim.

Although our rig is built for expo I also wheel it to practice possible situations...so I'm unsure which route to go. Thoughts?

265 =tread width in millimeters/ 70= percentage of tread width equals side wall height/ 17" rim diameter.

265mm equals 10.4" /70% of 10.4 = 7.3" side wall.. multiply the side wall height by 2 and then add the rim diameter 17" to get the total height of the tire. = 31.6" of course the actual numbers vary from manufacturer.

From my experience wheeling with 285's, they do great in the snow because they get wide. Other than that, I didn't really care for my 285's. they were heavy, they rubbed a lot, and my mileage SUCKED! Also the 285's like to follow dips in the road, pulling your truck side to side on the road. It's a constant battle when driving.

With the 255's I get much better mileage. When you air them down they get nice and wide for the terrain. They don't rub, they don't stuff my wheel wells anymore, and on/off road manners are much better.

I'd honestly go 255/80/17 for your rig's needs

Very nicely said and that makes lots of sense. I remember someone else mentioning the better on road handling and fuel saving now that you say that.

My current tires are certainly heavy and I could imagine larder ones being even heavier. Gonna go to Discount tire and see if they will let me look at some different sizes.

yeah I didn't really purchase the 305/70/16's I have for gas mileage lol. I've seen the tall skinnies at work, my size, and larger and I can't really say one is better than the other in off-road performance. They all had there advantages and disadvantages across different off-road terrain. I've found it's mostly preference and needs of use.

Ordered some Total Chaos link skids. Anyone know if it's an easy install? Old bolts-off, new bolts-on? Now I need to find some shock mount skids that'll work with my 5100's.

Also came across an interesting article by 4WD Magazine from 2010 where they beef up their 4th gen.

Oh you don't even know how bad I wish I could drive the S4 on the Autobahn!!!! So what parts have you ordered for the 4R?

Hmmm there is a nice little stretch of Autobahn that leads to my house...just pack her up and send her over here:roll:
There is an RS8 around the corner from my house....sadly it does not want to follow me home...prettiest thing I have seen in a long time.

Anyway, I ordered timing belt kit, spark plugs, all the filters and upgraded the air filter to a K&N, I am looking at a few more things because the truck was not taken care of to my liking so now I want to start out fresh. Trying to buy some take offs from a 2012 to get them painted and so on. It is hard for me to get the really big parts shipped over here since the boat takes forever and some will not even go. I would like to lift it but I might as well forget that for over here. I could not fit into a single parking garage in the south of France last summer with the 04 Runner with a Thule box on top!!

I do envy all you for being able to get the parts you want but then again my 4Runner gets to travel Europe So we will just be happy about that!

Sadly Momo the truck with the cladding was sold this year, which was a grand mistake :sobbing:. I actually liked my cladding and wish I could have my truck back.
The new truck has no cladding as it is a 07....so no more standing out
I had people all over Europe liking the cladding

Ha! I was going to do that until I saw my dog (lurking in the first pic) use them to get out of the backseat yesterday. We shall see though.

I have a set of springs and shocks from a 2010 4Runner Trail coming. Gonna see if I get a little height out of them. If not, I have a line on an FJ setup.
