What did you do with your 4runner today?

Last night I replaced all of my rusty rotors with factory rotors, factory pads, NAPA's premier line of calipers, and all six brake lines with stainless braided lines.

I ran into a few snags, particularly with the bleeding.

Anyone know how much it would cost to pay someone to install all of this? It took me all day and I finally finished around 1am this morning.

I painted the calipers with G2 red paint and am very impressed with how they turned out.

I don't have any shots of the fronts since I did those by flashlight.

Nice looks good!I need to do this also i've had a brake caliper paint kit sitting in the garage for like 6 months that i need to do(matte black) I have to try to do it before it gets to cold. I also need to do my rear stainless steel extended brake lines as well.

For replacing calipers, rotors, and pads at the Toyota dealer, I was quoted $2500 for all 4 corners.

I just did it myself, cost about $850 for parts. Took about 6-7 hours total. Totally worth the grease under the fingernails. Now that you've done it once, it'll be easier/shorter next time...

Prothane swaybar bushings front and rear and custom(ish) extended rear end links. Steering feels a lot tighter!

I just noticed this, but you need to rotate your shock mount 90° to remove the angle on the mounting bolt.

Sold it for $12,000.00 cash. Sad to see it go and it was a fantastic rig and the fellowship here has kicked butt since I joined in 03. It's always a tuff balance between resale and holding on and I think the offer was legit for an 11 year old suv with 92k on the clock. Far more than the dealer would offer on trade.

i sorry, but i wanted to share a cool mod i did to my kids new to them electric scooter. we will be using this when we take the 4r on camping trips to scoot around the camp grounds



24volt scooter, modded it with 12vleds underside and led foglight now thats a led headlight

Finally installed the rest of the skids! Unfortunately I snapped off bolt head on the frame cross support mount on the trans cross member. Gotta figure out how to heat that nut in the crossmember and get the remaining bolt shank out

did you have to install them from the rear to the front?
or did you start with the front skid and work your way back

Took the 4runner camping:
1. The trunk is a great place to sleep.
2. Avoid mud with the stock tires. I got stuck and it was hilarious. It was great getting to use the center diff lock.
3. How the heck can I get the truck to not smell like a camp fire? Febreze fabric freshener is no match for this one.

and next time spend the $30 for a set of speed bleaders makes bleeding a one man operation and you will be done in no time

Started adding some switches for future mods. Only installed one to see how it looks, will be picking up the second tomorrow. This was the smallest switch I could find locally and unfortunately it didn't have an LED for on/off. I plan on label it above the switch and may install my own LED for on/off status.

It's such a tight fit I had to trim the bottom of the switch a little to allow the trim to fit properly.



I have also been working on my rear cargo area but this will take more time to get like I plan. It will have two drawers with slides on the larger main drawer. The smaller drawer will house recovery equipment and not used as much so no plan for slides to maximize room. The front of the smaller drawer is also the sub box which houses a JL Audio 8" 8W3V3.

It will also be used as a sleeping platform which will be stored above the larger drawer and removable as needed. I'll post more as it gets closer.

Went to radio shack yesterday and picked up some mini bulbs to replace those that were out in my HVAC controls. $1/bulb and having it the same day is much better than spending $4/bulb and having to wait on shipping. These are the background illumination bulbs for the HVAC system in the 03-09s. The stock bulb is a 90010-09019 (long green) and the radio shack replacement bulb is a 272-1092

Before mounting the bulbs in the holders I tested them to make sure they would work by touching the ends to the contacts on the board and they did. So then I removed the old bulbs from the holder and inserted the new ones in. In the process I managed to drop a bulb into the empty space where the HVAC system sits in the dash and there is no room to get my hand back there. Looks like I get to take the dash apart now just to retrieve one bulb.
