What did you do with your 4runner today?

Raining all day yesterday, so took the opportunity to remove the V6 light duty receiver hitch and replace it with the V8 frame mount and center attachment piece. Other than the PITA of rolling around on the garage floor and the grit falling down, not a huge deal.

Had a moment of "Aw shoot" when the parts guy at Toyota pointed out the hitch I special ordered was for 03-05 and he showed a different part for the 06+. I asked him because the instructions online showed "spacer plates" between the hitch and center attachment. None were included. Not to worry, bolted up perfectly.

Decided on the Toyota part even though it was more expensive than the aftermarket stuff. Just did not like the looks or attachment methods of any of them. The old, discontinued Hidden Hitch 70411 would have been of interest with a similar three point mount, but this tucks up tightly and looks, well, factory.

No, and that is possibly where I went "almost" wrong. Did not think to ask the parts guy what the correct 06+ kit part number was. It may be PT228-89460. The website that has all the factory manual for the 07 has instructions for mounting that as a kit. That is what I printed out and made me think I needed those "center spacers".

I used PT228-89440, supposedly for 03-05. Kit included bolts, new electrical connector attachment plate, and some frame spacers that go between the hitch and frame. Also a "closeout" plate that cleans up the attachment of center piece and hitch, and a rubber plug to stick in the receiver. Both cosmetic, but what the hell? Typical Toyota touch.

Yes, you have to order the center attachment separately. Bolts up just like the stock hitch, have to re-use the same bolts.

I have seen two different part numbers mentioned. From an old post here, I went with 0925-35850. Have seen 0925-35870 mentioned also. Dunno what the difference is, choose wrong and the bolts may not line up.

Real good idea to butter up a Toyota parts guy to cross check all these parts. If not special order and they do not line up, you can return them.

I lucked out and all lined up, no bolt holes just "slightly" off, no center spacer plates needed, etc. Relief was enormous as I tightened up the frame bolts and saw the center of the hitch moving up until it almost touched the center attachment. Could not even slide the thin closeout plate in until I loosened the frame bolts a bit. Centered it all up, torqued, and done. Was truly worried after talking to the parts guy and had to tear off the bumper cover, original hitch, and all just to find out if I had screwed the pooch, so to speak.

i actually like the dimmer info screen, seems less distracting when driving. I do not understand why some want it brighter. or maybe its because i did mine red and it matches perfectly to my SCII and odo brightness.

Yeah it's just hard to see during the day and not as clear, otherwise I'd be ok with it. Thought about doing that screen in white instead but wouldn't look as good I don't think. Yeah that pesky airbag light.... Oh well, work in progress.

New front pads.

Unfortunately, brakes are still squeaking. None of the pistons in the calipers appeared to be seized, and one of the old pads was cracked and missing a big chunk, so not that upset. Just wish I would have pulled the trigger on the whole shebang instead of having to duplicate most of my effort again tomorrow.

35% off at Autozone right now, though, so it could be worse.

Started noticing that sulfur smell more frequently. Originally, the plan was to do this when I get the Gibson, but this will work for the time being...

so turning the exhaust to the side makes the smell go away? if i take out the resonator (or little muffler in the back), how much more louder will it get?

You may notice a slight difference, (music off and listening for it) but its barely noticeable at all.

i simply dont understand how someone could do so many swaps and everyone be cool with that LED not getting swapped as well?! It drives me nuts on my own truck, but i know i have no one to blame but myself!! one of these weekends i'll tear into it and figure out how to swap it. i'll pm y'all when i do in case y'all want yours swapped...i'll make y'all a killer deal!!

Map light mod, DAC button bulb, and swapped the crappy fat bobs garage rear shocks for the 5100s finally. Such a lesson of do it right the first time, so much better build quality and ride.
