What did you do with your 4runner today?

Always had that problem too. The pieces don't seem to fit together the greatest.

i think its the clamps, they're the cheapest of cheap. I had the shop turn it so its standing straight up and away from the crossmember then weld it up. Id recommend doing the same.

The original KO's and the KO2's were AWESOME in the snow! BFG hate is so silly. The tires work, period!
..... Suuuure. Until you get a real tire and realize how SHITTY they actually are. Lol
Those things don't grip on anything but dry pavement.

In new or deep snow the ko2s are decent. However, I did not find it "silly" when my wife got stuck on a hill with ko2s in her 4wd 4runner during a snow/ice storm a couple weeks ago. Luckily my grabber at2s let me get to her to help her get her car off the roadway and drive her home in my runner. I also noticed many cars with street tires were making it up the same hill my wifes 4runner could not.
I expected her ko2s to be much better, especially because they cost 50% more than my at2s.
So no, I do not hate them. I just think they are overpriced and perform poorly in slick conditions. I hate that my wife may be less safe with them. I will be replacing hers as soon as I can afford it. In ther Interim, in poor conditions she will now be taking my rig.

Had my daystar installed at a local shop ( because I am lazy ) One of the shop onwers had a set of wheels and tires he was looking to get rid of and we struck a deal..
So I ended up buy wheels and tires as well. Note anyone that knows me knows I am not a fan of black wheels but for 175 per wheel/tire mounted balanced and installed I couldnt pass it up.
Anyhow in garage as I bought it.

one center cap was missing so I left all 4 off rather than be missing 1 for now. I should have the caps this week.

the tires are dean back country SQ 4 (265/70/17)and some inexpensive wheels from discount 17x9 on a simple daystar 2.5/1.5. I like it , looks better and is not too big. I am happy

Never understood the expense of those things. I've said several times that they are just relying on the name they made 30 years ago when they were a good tire compared to what was out there. Now there is much better, and much cheaper. Glad your wife is ok and nothing happened.

My wife is a timid driver and it really scared her. She told me she didn't think I'd be able to make it to her, but after hearing cars were making it up the same hill I thought I'd try. She tried to go forward and slid sideways partially off the road and almost hit a row of mailboxes and did hit a bush. Luckily being of the road gave me enough traction with ATRAC to back her car up to a place safe enough to park it for the evening (luckily no other car slid into her overnight). She didn't want to drive again until the streets were bone dry and made me take her to and from work for two days. I will say that I know AT tires in general aren't expected to be the best in snow, but I expected much better.
It was a really crazy storm and my Generals were making slide some, but I was able to get up and down some very steep hills in SW Portland.

I had the Hankook dynapro ATM on my truck when I bought it and was extremely pleased with them in everything, especially snow and ice. I've had good luck with cooper's in the past too. Other than a full snow tire, good year, Cooper and the best have been Hankook for me. When we got our first snow last fall and I had the bfg at's I thought I was going to die. I aired them down, no difference, tried over 3 days, sucked, so I swapped to my stock size Hankook ATM's until my 35" Hankook MT's came in, in the middle of a blizzard too! Not as good in snow as the all terrain, but great overall and very aggressive offroad. Which your wife doesn't need. Lol

Yeah, we are going to swap out the BFGs when we can. Unfortunately the stock 20" rims on the limited 5th gen have limited tire options, and the KO2 were supposed to be better that the previous gen. I think I may just get some cheap 17s with studded snow tires for her winter driving. I do take her rig on whitewater kayak trips and the BFGs have done well on rocky access/fire roads to get to rivers, and they are supposed to last a very long time. I just can't trust them in icy conditions anymore. If I were to do it again I'd have just replaced her rims and got Grabbers like mine. It probably would have actually been cheaper overall, especially if I sold my 20s.

What LED headlights are you going with? (Assuming you mean LED bulbs)
18's definitely seem to have fewer tire options. I think 16" is kind of the ideal size for tire choices, just doesn't work with the Sport brakes.
Ya I'm not a fan of 20's. I would rather have 15" wheels as I offroad a lot, but the big brakes are handy so I sacrifice for the 17" wheels. Lol

Finally got around to mounting and wiring my 20 dollar Amazon pod lights. I used a piece of angle iron to make the mount and threaded a couple holes in the bumper mount to mount the iron to so that the lights sit on either side of my license plate. I'm pretty happy with them, we'll see how long they last for a set of 20 dollar lights.
