What did you do with your 4runner today?

Finally got it past the break-in period! :whoo:

This truck is really amazing - although I am the third owner (bought it with 83k on the odo about 18 months ago), this 4Runner feels as tight and buttoned down as a new car. I recently had the TB/WP replaced so I'm good for the next 100k...and at the rate I put on miles, that should take me about 10 years. :thumb3:

I was a Ford fan when it came to trucks before I got my 4 Runner.
*Disclaimer* The only Ford trucks I had experience with were Fx4 Rangers. Which are pretty awesome off-road. My family has had 2 and loved both of them.

But getting out of my dad's '07 Fx4 Level 2 with 130k miles and into the '04 4 Runner with 160k miles, you can see the jump in quality. Both in how everything is made/put together and in how the vehicle performs. The ride/stability is MILES better in the 4 Runner even though the tires are slightly larger than on the Ford and are E load rated. I'm sure XREAS helps a bit there, though.

Things like the fact that the Ford has cheap, plasticy controls for everything on the dash, the shifter boot doesn't stay down, no traction control, drum brakes in the rear, no center diff lock option (4WD automatically locks it iirc) no DAC........I think the ONLY things the Ford has over the 4 Runner are the T-2R Torsen in the rear and the factory Bilsteins. And iirc both vehicles had about the same MSRP.

Buddy of mine is a huge ford fan. He loves my 4runner and is amazed at what it does though. He had a 90 bronco with 6" lift, 35x15.5x15 super swamper tsl's and no sway bars. I walked all over him in every situation and my tires can drive down the highway without issue afterwords. Lol. He has 8 ford's, only 1 runs... All have different issues that have sidelined them, new to old. They definitely have a few good ones though!!

Built and installed my rear sway bar links. I ordered the front hardware, but waiting for it to get here. Will be doing that this weekend. But...I'll probably just take it off!

Yesterday...

I installed four General Grabber AT2s, slightly oversized at 265/70R17. Noticed light scraping in hard-ish turns. Today hope to visit my favorite high tension cables right-of-way (Gnarly, rough, steep uphill grade) and find out if they were worth the money! Color me nervous!

Saturday morning used the 4Runner to haul 8 tables for a charity run. The practicality of this truck is amazing. Decided to try out a new brewery. Pulled into the lot and found a built 3rd gen. Naturally pulled up next to it and found out the owner of the brewery just bought it from a local guy fabricator who owns an off-road shop. Needless to say great conversation and great beer followed.
Then on Sunday took the Mrs down to the farm via some gravel travel back roads for some target practice and check trail cams.
Man I love this truck.

Roof rack pics + shaft grease question

Cut my mud flaps off, and put my Thule bike racks on the roof. I think it makes the truck a lot taller and better, hopefully mpg doesn't suffer terribly. Fun fact: the mud flaps actually just tear right off, no cutting needed, simply remove the bottom bolt and rip the glue in the middle.

Also saw a ton of nice 4runners at the NCSU football tailgate, including this 4th gen with T4R.ORG stickers.

Question: Is this grease ideal for using on my drive shaft ship joints? This truck is new to me and it clunks badly, so I want to put the best grease in there. This says moly-fortified so it should be what I want right? Also good to go for the u-joints? (I mostly ask because every other grease I've seen referenced is red, but this is black. Want to make sure I'm using good stuff.)

I can't imagine wanting to hump my bikes onto the roof of my 4Runner. Maybe I'm just getting old . . .

Took the HCF out of my new to me '08. Only had my morning commute, but time will tell if I see any MPG difference. I ran about 2 tanks prior to the adjustment to see if there was a difference.

So I'm trying to see what I still have left to do on this thing to make it fresh and reliable. (147,000 miles) Just got an alignment and tire balance, which was not able to be aligned perfectly because of the lift I guess, along with a bent flange on the passenger side camber alignment bolt.

Wipe New, Mothers Back to Black, and Vinylex should all work for keeping your plastic parts looking decent.
