I had a few quotes here locally and this shop gave me the price I was expecting to pay and what I could afford which is $1600.00 for their platinum level. The job includes sanding, repairing any minor issues, base coat, wet sanding and buffing then clear coat. I really hope it turns out well and cant wait to see it.

Also curious about this. I got more than a few spots where the factory clearcoat is failing.

Figure at some point a respray of some sort will be in my 4Runner's future.

I was really surprised that the clear coat was peeling in multiple areas when I bought it and it was only 5 years old at the time.

Swapped key + fob and started using the 2nd set. Forgot what an un-abused key and fob feels like.

Installed a rear hatch LED strip. When my sleeping platform is installed the factory rear cargo light doesn't shine below to see what you're getting from the totes underneath and more camp light would be nice. I wired into the contacts for the rear cargo bulb so it's controlled by the on/off/door switch in the back.

Ran through behind the panel for rear hatch module.

Painfully fished through factory rubber seal here....

And done! Except for the panic moment when you close the hatch after and it doesn't open back up....

Turns out you shouldn't unplug the plug to the latch motor when the hatch is open or it will fault the system since it doesn't know it's location. After some cussing and foruming (thanks t4r.org!) I figured that out and unhooked the battery. Bye bye radio stations but after a normalization the hatch worked again.

Thanks man...slowly building it for telluride and ouray colorado next year. Heading down to 4xinnovations for sliders this winter and ditching the spacer lift.

Performed a home-brew repair on the right headlight assembly. The seal failed - for what reason I don't know - and moisture began accumulating inside the assembly. It would condense on the inside of the lens and never seemed to dissipate. The right beam was dimmer and more diffused as a result.

Referring to the FSM I removed the headlight assembly from the body and all the bulbs from the assembly. I washed it out with soap and water and left it empty until dry. I then applied silicone (windshield) sealer along the top half of the assembly, at the seam, and drilled two small drain holes at the lowest point of the bottom. I put a little white lithium grease around the bulb seals and reinstalled everything.

Extremely cheap and effective so far.

That's not bad at all. If I end up doing a re-paint I most likely will go with a simple single-stage paint job, and skip any body repairs, as my paint gets abused pretty regularly when I'm out on the trails.

That's about what I figured it would be, I'm going to need to replace my rear lift gate in the next few years and I already have one, but its galactic grey, and I was wondering if I should just get the whole truck resprayed then, because I have some bad swirls/scratches and clear coat fading on the fender flares so I figured it might not be that much more to just et everything sprayed then and have a brand new paint job that should last for a while

independent fog light (for use with high beams)

first real mod on my newly acquired 4runner! I did the independent fog light mod. So useful for where I live as there is a lot of wildlife on the roads. Hoping to learn a lot from you guys on this site! Cheers

Welcome! Thats a great mod. Its one of my favorites. I now have it so it controls my Rigid lights independently. Very convenient.

Fixed my mirror by swapping some the guts of [MENTION=119029]NinjaOne[/MENTION] 's old mirror into mine (write-up link below). In the process, found this in his behind the mirror motor and everything:

Not sure what kind of flying stinging pest this is for...

I found it fitting since I found a bunch of long expired tiny moth cocoons in mine when I took it apart. Maybe I'll rename my 4Runner to the Ark of Bugs or something, especially considering the storm we have approaching the PNW.
