What did you do with your 4runner today?

Clear this up - your rear sway links, you replaced the bushings on them that originally came with them? And can you link me to the sky jackers, I'm going to replace mine soon, are these reallygood or are there better ones to get? Also, did you replace the front end links as well

i havent replaced the fronts yet, but the parts are on the way. got the fronts from detroit axle off ebay. nothing special about them, and im not sure i really NEED to replace mine, but i've been on a replacing/upgrading binge lately and i'm about to change a lot of parts. i'm also doing the swaybar relocation bracket at the same time.

heres the link for the skyjackers, but also try ebay. i got mine off there for maybe like 5-8 bucks cheaper.

and yeah, i like them, the truck feels steady at high speed. im not sure if theyre the best or anything, but for the price im happy.

Thanks buddy! Will be looking into having that ordered tomorrow so they come with my new spc control arms. Keep this thread updated with the front links, I'm on a replacing/upgrading binge too, I want this truck to last

Tires installed, needed to trim the front bumper more and remove the front mud flaps. There was about a 2mm clearance from the body mount. All and all I'm very happy with these tires!

Not much louder than my old Cooper atp's.

You should just make your own. Skyjackers are good for direct replacement but if you actually want more travel and performance, you need to upgrade.

hows the ride now? give some detail please.

It's a bit soon to tell, but so far it does seem to handle bumps and speed bumps a fair bit better. You don't notice them in the cabin as much, as there's no hard initial impact and not much in terms of swaying or body movement after the bump. At first it felt very jumpy and a bit all over the place, but settling a bit and an alignment helped that. That said it does feel more tippy in the corners although I can't tell yet if it's because I've never driven a car this tal, or once it settles if it'll handle through the turns a bit better.

Nose dive under breaking is reduced, although not eliminated. I remember driving in my brothers 5th gen with Icon's a long time ago and it was much rougher but had more of a feeling of driving like it was on rails, corners and all. The 6112's are much smoother already.

The skyjackers (at least one model they sell) are extended for 3" lifted trucks. Should offer quite a bit more performance over stock right?

Guys spare me the trouble of starting a new thread.

I haven't driven my t4r in 3-4 weeks. I have been saving money because my commute was much longer than normal. Here's the deal. While the truck was not being used, I cleaned the throttle body while it was still in the truck and tinkered with some things (nothing else mechanical). I just drove it for the first time and my idle seems a bit high. Not bad, but a bit high. Who knows. Maybe I just forgot how my truck feels. My question: What do u you guys normally run at idle? Anyone experience a higher idle after cleaning the TB? (Yes I am mechanically inclined. I'm just bouncing ideas around)

Disconnect both battery cable ends. Touch them together for about 10-15sec. Reconnect them to the battery. Start the vehicle and let it relearn throttle stop.

I get that the ECU needs to relearn the air to fuel ratio. I fully expect it to come down. It just caught me off guard being high. Maybe it was the exhaust that made me over exaggerate. I just wanted to confirm a normal idle RPM range, and to be sure that my experience is normal for this particular vehicle.

Side note. What is the benefit to touching the cables? Strictly for my curiosity

Took it to the dealership to get on the list for a new dash. Now to see how long it takes before they call to have it installed.

Ok Ok. Well I'm not going to make my own because I don't trust my work when it comes to stuff like that, I know it's not a very important part but I don't want to corrupt the sway bar too much. But I will be buying the skyjackers today. Are they the extended ones or are there one kind of em? Which would be best, on a toytec boss coilover /5100 superflex coils suspension. Bc I know there are different links to choose from

Edit: I just looked and there's some for all different ride height lifts. 3-4, 5-6 eat. Which ones did you get or should I get. I want to bring the front of my lift a little higher so should I get longer links or what. Or can I not bring it up because of the down travel/stiffness on the springs. I'm very confused

Touching the cables together dissipates any electricity still in the system, if you will. The computer can still hold memory for a little bit when the battery is disconnected.
Yes the high idle is normal. You just cleaned out the carbon on the throttle plate which took up the gap that is now there causing a high idle.

In the middle of replacing the rear brake rotors and pads. Driver side is done, taking a break for lunch.

Update - got my butt kicked by the passenger side, started to rain so it'll have to wait until tomorrow :redbrick:

Changed the oil/filter (Motul X-Clean 8100 5w-40/M1-209 filter with Liqui Moly Cera Tec), installed an HID harness for the fog lights, rotated the tires and did a 16 qt flush of the original ATF at 139k miles with Valvoline MaxLife ATF.

Well I tried to put in a new head unit. It didn't fit so I put the original back in. After I reinstalled everything the climate control light are staying and the head unit light is staying on. Trying to troubleshoot this, if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I flushed my entire transmission full of new ATF. I know pretty much nothing about automatic transmissions so it was a huge learning curve. Gathered my tools, took my time, followed mountain lion's guide on the Tacoma forum and got it done. First fluid change since factory new, 115,500 miles. ATF was black.

Truck shifts much smoother now and feels lighter.

Driveway/hands covered with MaxLife Synthetic.

Wasted 1hr trying to get my damn bumper off! Couldn't get the clips holding it on. Felt like I was going to snap the thing in half so I gave up and did the procedure with it attached.

6 hour project overall. Took so long because I took my time to make sure everything was perfect.

That's wise to do especially if you'll be towing.

To remove the bumper cover the clips for the bumper cover are a common problem with all the plastic on Toyota front ends. You have to use a small flathead screwdriver to popout the head, then the expanding underside slides out. You can't just pry them out.

Same thing putting them in. The head has to be out to get the expanding underside in, then you pop the head in.

I've replaced dozens and dozens of those popout clips on Tundras and Tacomas, replaced all of them on this Runner.

It's surprising how many buzzing noises are eliminated by replacing those clips, they deteriorate after a few years. 4Runner front ends have a lot of them.
