What did you do with your 4runner today?

Can you provide some information on how you made your white paint look great again? Mine is in serious need of a buff job, I'm just not sure which products, and steps I should take yet. (trying to learn)

I used meguires DA polishing system. It hooks up to a power drill. It took me 4 Saturdays to get this done. I was afraid of the rubbing compound at first. Thinking I was gonna burn through my paint or something. You literally cannot be too aggressive. I even used it on my windows to get rid water spots that had been there since I bought it 4 years ago.

I didn't bother taping anything off as this stuff damages nothing. Actually, you get a grey tint in your polish from rubbing on the weather beaten weather stripping. This actually helps aid you in seeing where you are working. White paint is hard like that.

I did small sections at a time and went over several times in mutiple directions and using overlapping strokes. The pad wI'll lose their velcro backing if you are not careful. But they would with out them anyway.

This is a 20 hour job for sure.

You will eventually wear through your clear coat. But it takes a LOT of polishing to do that. You have to be a lot more careful on vehicles with single stage paint. My 3000GT would turn all of my pads and rags red when I polished it because it was single stage. Literally paint coming off of the car. Kinda terrifying.

I have a small orbital polisher that I got from Advance. Works fine for the most part.

Wow thanks! I have paint code 056. Is that the natural white? I am most certain that there is no clear on this paint.

Can you tell me the exact brand, and model of the compounds you used? Huge thanks!

Took off my XREAS and put on the Bilstein's 5100s up front. I have a nasty grinding noise on both wheels now, not sure why. I haven't gotten alignment done yet though.

I tried to replace rear shocks but the top bolts just won't come off. Pb blasted twice not budging. Might have to take it in.

Make sure you have everything connected right up front.
As for the rear shocks SawZall those babies out of there!

Look at your dust shields on back of rotors. More than likely one is bent and rubbing rotor.

Cut shocks off!

That is a great idea! Mine has water spots on the windows too (wtf previous owner??) that drive me bat sh!te crazy. Now I have a way to get rid of them. I'll do it this weekend. Thanks!! :thumb:

Maybe I'll use a rubbing compound or something a little abrasive. Try a small inconspicuous area first . . .
