What did you do with your 4runner today?

I've been getting it ready for the move to Alaska.

Armor, recovery, 1st aid, HD suspension, meticulous maintenance etc etc.

So jealous of your paint. I usually take better care of my cars' paint, but I know the 4 Runner will just get pinstriped, so I can't bring myself to take the time to properly claybar/polish it...Poor 'ole girl

I'm thinking about replacing calipers also since I already have it on jackstands and they look pretty crusty. The RR hub won't turn but that could be the E-brake is seized. I haven't fooled around with brake pistons before, is there a method to lubricate them with the caliper on the hub?

I want to say there is a lubricant one can apply to PREVENT the piston from oxidizing, but I can't think of what it's called. I could be wrong.

Someone suggested that after a few months of servicing the brakes (replacing the pads, for example), the space between the pistons and pads get really caked with crap (road dirt, brake dust, etc etc) to clean them off and lube the pistons (and seals) with XYZ lubicant............ sounds like good advice, but honestly who is going to do this? Again, I could be wrong about the lube.

Handed the keys over to hubby so he could repair my frame and both rear shock mounts. My yearly state inspection apppointment is Thursday and I almost died when I inspected the frame myself. Gah! Rust- the gift that keeps on giving. Or would that be the gift that keeps on taking? LOL *sigh*

Added a Jerry Can to the tire carrier

I got the truck back from getting a new Jerry can mount on my custom rear tire carrier over the weekend. Happy with the results but I might have to upgrade to a two can setup shortly.

Starting off on the idea, I didn't want to hack up or remove the rear bumper to mount a full size spare on the truck. I also wanted to keep the factory hitch for the V8 towing goodness so I found a local fab guy that was up for the challenge.

I'm in Des Moines. It looks like you might be into a bit of the overland thing. That's a scene I'd like to get more into and get some trips scheduled on the calendar.

I was just in iowa city today for a check up at the burn clinic (dirtbikes can hurt ya lol) Yeah I'm big into camping and overlanding, hoping to meet some more into it around here as well!

I have a local fab guy that should be able to do that, and I really prefer the looks of that versus a steel rear bumper.

Below is a picture of the passenger side mounting (1/2 picture of the full mount). Basically, two cross beams are bolted to the frame and the carrier tubes mount to those and then snake above the factory hitch and bent around the rear bumper. I can get a few more pictures tomorrow night that better show.

Finished up my spare LCA rebuild with poly bushings and new style moog greaseable ball joints. Now to weld up the alignment cam tabs and install the new arms.

Garbage from front and rear arms. So far not impressed with the rear poly bushings, only in for a couple weeks and extremely squeaky. Edit: Found a bunch of sand and leaves packed into the rear lower control arm mounts, cleaned it out and no more squeak!
