What did you do with your 4runner today?

Tested out my new ARB awning and sleeping platform. Great night of camping with the gf!

A little underside cleaning and spraypainting with Ace RustStop black. Will Fluidfilm after it dries. Cut four cones off the rear bumpstops making room for Firestone airbags, cleaned tools after a messy Kroil-soaked suspension removal.

Leaky valve cover gaskets finally got done, and the whole job only claimed the life of one air plenum nuts. It's not a diy job without a trip to home depot.

Got everything ready for 195k mile service tomorrow and ready for summer. New battery, oil & filter change, rotate tires service diffs and transfer case. Hoping for 200k by August!

Two tips for removing front coilovers:

1. Removing the front swaybars, there's a 6mm Allen insert to hold the link while loosening/tightening the nut.

2. You can remove the 14mm inside top nut via the engine bay if you bend the fender well outwards a bit with pliers. I used a 6-point 14mm socket with an extension. That inside nut is a PITA if you have rust (use antiseize on the install). Passenger side you'd have to remove the airbox to get to it via the engine bay, driver side is easy.

Did you do follow a write-up, or is it just common sense?

I have the service manual but it was pretty easy. Drain the coolant using the drain plug on the lower left side of the radiator. Remove the tabs that hold plastic radiator cover. Then remove the coolant over flow tank and fan shroud. I just push the shroud toward the motor, remove the upper/lower coolant hose. Disconnect the oil line and just tuck it away so the oil doesn't leak out.

Remove the 4 bolts that attaches the radiator to the radiator support then your done. I had to replace the bottom bolts and nut since they broke. But other then that is was an easy job. I bought 2 quart of tranny oil from the dealer that I didn't use. And it only took 1.5 gallon of coolant. Fill up the radiator and overflow tank and bleed the coolant system.

Is it me or do the updated headlights bulge out more? I never noticed that before!

I think the picture exaggerates it a lot....there is a bulge, but not a huge difference in my opinion

Good to know, I need to do this and I'm hoping not to have to deal with the tranny fill at all.

Which radiator did you buy?

The hardest part, for me, was accessing the bottom 2 bolts holding it in and not dropping them inside the frame. Otherwise it's super straightforward and easy.

Drove Oh My God road from Idaho Springs to Central City (super easy but very scenic drive) and then messed around on Yankee Hill for a few hours, awesome way to spend a Saturday. Love this truck.

Car Quest branded radiator was the only one that was in stock. It fit just fine and everything bolted on without a problem. I order it through Advance Auto use the 20% off code and a $20 coupon I had. Total was $147 with the coupon and 20% off and I forgot to mention the coolant Zerex Asian coolant.

I broke the bottom bolt on mine and replaced it with some from the hardware store.

Mounted my SCS wheels wheels I received today. 17" matte grey Ray 10's with 255/80/17 Cooper ST Maxx wrapped around it. Had a lot of rub even after pushing the plastic fender. Had to cut some of the bumper with tin snips and I think it clears now...will do a good test run tomorrow.

Got my magnaflow muffler installed with a exhaust tip behind the R/R tire. Looks great and has a throaty sound during acceleration but not annoyingly loud. Still quiet when idling. I have no pic unfortunately because I put it on a friend's property until I find a place.

Muffler I installed was the Magnaflow 12586 stainless steel which is basically a perfect size replacement for the stock muffler.

Oof that's always fun.

When I replaced my rad I think I went with a $50 Amazon one. The end tanks seemed solid, which is all I was really worried about. I wish someone out there made an all-aluminum option for us. I'd have jumped on that for sure.

Was able to change my 4runner today to configure it to one button to unlock all the doors at once instead of two presses on the remote.

Stupid dealership wanted $150 and said it probably wasn't doable. But hey, I was able to do it. lol

I spent hours and hours on this forum looking and googling and there wasn't a solution. Ended up all day twiddling and fiddling and learning to get it to work through trial and error. If you are good with novice electric work, you should be able to do it too. :lmao:
