What did you do with your 4runner today?

I want to change the differential fluid but when I tried to remove the skid plate to get at it the bolts just spun and I could not see a way to get a wrench on top of a nut top hold them. Any suggestions?

Ugh, messy. Maybe drill the head of the bolt out if you have some nice big bits? Like you would a rivet basically. Good Luck.

The 2008, oh boy, 98k miles $1434 spent at a Toyota dealer. $950 on CV axles and reboot, wussed out doing them myself. $400 per axle for the boots alone, $475 with reman'd CV axles, CVJ brand. $350 for a full trans flush, 16 qts WS, $89 for alignment with SPC UCA's, four rotors resurfaced, front pads replaced.

Oof. I think my front CVs ended up costing me $300 total. That was with having a shop install em ($50/hr). There's no reason to go to a dealer for something like that if they aren't putting in brand new OEM axles, IMO. And even then, with how much OEMs can cost, I'd look into reputable aftermarkets and have a shop install em at half the labor cost.

On recently acquired 2004 Limited 4WD V8:

• replaced defective license plate bulb
• installed LED interior lights (including red map light on driver's side)
• installed LED running board lights
• performed 2006+ OEM LED tail light swap
• installed smoker's kit with two 12V outlets in center console

All easy ones, but it's a start. More planned for the near future...

Today, I did some more minor mods and maintenance:

• sprayed Deoxit on battery terminals
• installed Lev-o-gage clinometers
• installed HooToo WiFi travel router as off-the-grid media and storage server
• installed HIR fog lights and high beams (in the hope of avoiding the need for a light bar)
• reattached loose moulding inside front bumper just above fog lights
• performed JA's independent fog light mod
• performed JA's full-time 12V/115V mod

Still missing are the rear diff breather extension and maybe a 1" front spacer lift.

thanks man. its such a clean looking and versatile rack. tim, the owner of a gamiviti, claims its no higher than the stock roof rack. i havent measured, but its incr3dibly low profile and has next to no additional wind noise.

Wife and I took the 4R out this weekend, went to the river with our daughter had some fun in the sun. Ended up getting stuck on the gravel bar but got out fairly easy after putting it in Low and a little gas.

Doing some maintenance (driveshaft lube) & general cleanup. Found a hint in a 2010 thread about using Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner on gray Weathertech mats and am happy to report it works great. Didn't take "before" pics but both mats had the typical ground-in dirt and grime you get over time.

Yea, I was browsing his site and he appears to have a lot of customizable options available for it too. I like how the side rails are below the feet/towers instead of above them, less of a basket look and more expo style but beefier. I really wish I could justify one but I have zero need for it down here in AL. It would only be for looks, much like my lift and 33s.

I spent $140 on cv axles for my 2005 sport 225k and put them on myself after watching youtube videos. The inner part of the axles were hard to get out. I could not pry them out and ended up fabricating a slide hammer out of a vice grips and threaded rod - it still was a bit of a chore.

The nuts are welded on. I think you'll have to drill and tap. $*% skidplates. Put antiseize on the bolts when you reinstall, and best of luck with the $*% front diff plugs.
