What did you do with your 4runner today?

I spent $140 on cv axles for my 2005 sport 225k and put them on myself after watching youtube videos. The inner part of the axles were hard to get out. I could not pry them out and ended up fabricating a slide hammer out of a vice grips and threaded rod - it still was a bit of a chore.

I want to change the differential fluid but when I tried to remove the skid plate to get at it the bolts just spun and I could not see a way to get a wrench on top of a nut top hold them. Any suggestions?

I had this happen. I just took a hand grinder with cut off blade and cut off the bolt. The skid plat seemed secure enough with the remaining three bolts. Just make sure you take care of them.

If you want to replace the nut inside the frame, it won't be easy.

Blow torch with wise grip is number 1 choice to remove busted bolt, or you can drill leftovers, install helicoil. Apply anti-seize on new bolts.

Changed power steering fluid today. Had been running the last 100K miles on a fill of Amsoil ATF. Reservoir was dirty but fluid came out looking quite good still.

Took only a few minutes to do using attachments I rigged together.

3/8" inner diameter hose , about 4 feet plus 4 inch section
3/8" brass barb
Random 3/8" diameter bolt

Ran about 1.5 qt Amsoil Signature Series Multi-Vehicle ATF through

Drained fluid

Good for another 100K miles! :brushteeth:

Hmm, I should probably do this. Mine looks pretty black. There a walkthrough for the flushing process out there? Like, steps of some sort once everything is hooked up

I don't use that method though, I don't jack up the vehicle at all.
What I do is once everything is hooked up like in the pics above,
I top up the reservoir to the very top, then start the car for only 1-2 seconds, and shut off. The power steering pump will move fluid from the reservoir to the rack , back up to the return line and back down your hose to your container. This happens very fast.

Top-up fluid again, and repeat 3-4 times. Starting for only a second or 2 and shut off.


If your fluid is in bad shape maybe do it a couple more times just make sure to have enough fluid on hand. The whole system only takes around 1.2 qts

When done, put the return line back on the nipple, leave the reservoir cap off and start her up. Let it run for 5-10 minutes, any air that might've got into the
system will work it's way out. You'll see the fluid swirling in the reservoir, look for tiny air bubbles moving around. When you can't see any more bubbles you're done.

Went wheeling with some T4R and ExPo peeps this past weekend and (obviously) made a video about it. Some really cool backroads and places to explore. Plus the Pine Barrens offer some great wheeling! Highly recommend that place to anyone looking for a solid day of exploring and a beautiful place to just drive your 4Runner around. Stocker-friendly which is always a plus too!

Awesome idea! Thanks! That giant air pump under the hood sure does make a great air pump for things like this!

I would, personally, recommend doing this on an already warm engine, though. Doing that many starts in a row, on a cold engine, isn't amazing for it.

Shifted the truck into 4Lo for the first time in 6 years and to be my surprise it actually engaged right away. Such a relief. Will definitely be putting it into 4Lo each month now.

Drove 1200 miles yesterday and today. Stayed the night in Idaho at Black Rock campground. 20 miles off the main road. Fun area to play around. Woke up and drove to Grand Junction, CO. Tomorrow heading to Silverton, CO for 4 days of off roading and playing aground!

Installed new yellow fogs and yellow led bulbs. White knuckle sliders. And bilstein 6100's. Plus a full fluid flush for all components.
