What did you do with your 4runner today?

My rear wheel bearings are bad and they mess up my rear pads.

Today, I fly home to Wisco to pick up the T4R. Tomorrow and Sunday, I drive it back to Colorado!

I've noticed the same thing with mine. No clue what causes it. I replaced rear brakes after having the truck for 6 months or so (This February, iirc). The fronts were, I believe, replaced before I bought it. By the time I got inspected in August, my rear pads had less life left than my fronts. Really weird.

So it's not just me! I bumped a super old thread about it hoping to get some more opinions. For now I'm just throwing new rear pads on with new caliper hardware and letting them eat.

Decided to clean up the headlights. 400 grit/800 grit/2000 grit sandpaper with a coat of Rustoleum UV resistant/non-yellowing clear coat.

Curious to see how long it lasts.

Went an bought a longer M6 bolt (went with an M6x1.0x16mm) to replace the lower interior headlight bolt that the prior body shop left uninstalled. I had some headlight flop as a result. This was long enough to engage the clip where the factory self tapping M6 bolt would not. Tightened right up and now it is rock solid like it is supposed to be. I also used some hot glue to fill in the stripped nylon insert on two of the upper HL bolts and when I reinstalled the coarse thread bolt/screw it now also snugs up.

I know it's not much but it was bugging me.

Home-made* rear axle tool take 2 after the initial very ghetto version made of scrap fell apart as soon as we applied a little force to it. We'll try it tonight.

* err actually made by my in-house machinist after I bought proper materials so really nothing home-made about it...

So yes it worked but the bearing broke apart, the hub side part stayed on so we had to cut it off. My guy was a bit careless and gouged the axle a little but it should be OK. As the axle is completely disassembled, I plan to clean it extensively and then put it together with the new parts and eventually swap it in.

LC 80 series off Amazon fits very well actually. Still need to route the internal piping.

Got new plugs from Amazon, Denso plugs, the box says they are made in Indonesia....In the past Denso has always been Japan. Anyone else notice this?

Installed strongarm hood struts. In the process I found rat turds and piss in my engine compartment and it smelled terrible. I then cleaned my entire engine compartment with a bleach water solution and a hose. Also replaced cabin air filter because there was some turds in it too. I did not see any of this last time I had my hood open earlier this week.

On my way back from getting cabin air filter a huge rock slammed into my windshield chipping it. Today has not been great.

BEGINNING MY BUILD FINALLY
I placed an order for 255/80/17 cooper st max and MB 352 matte black in 17x9 -12mm offset
as well as JBA high caster UCA's
It got me thinking will i need Lug nuts or anything to have the wheels fit properly?
When i lifted my previous truck i ended up breaking 6 out of 8 studs on one wheel because the 4x4 shop used closed rather than open end lug nuts....
I will be ordering the toytec/ebiach 620# coilovers and blistein 5100 with super flex hd soon, I'm just waiting to see if there are any thanksgiving/Black friday/ cyber monday sales coming up from toytec

Upgraded my HU today. Installed an Auto Pumpkin 10.1" setup that fits in a double din slot. So far works great. Still have some more things to do (it was ungodly cold here today) to get it completed, but done for the most part. I bought a new harness to go with this as well and went a different route than the typical crimping and/or soldering done in past jobs and pinned all the wires and disconnects with weatherpacks.

FINALLY got the steering wheel controls working on the new pioneer head unit. Initially had it installed 'professionally', but pulled it to install the brake bypass and dual antenna...lost the steering wheel controls in the process. After pulling it out about 4 times i figured it out...steering wheel control inserted in the wrong port! :redbrick:

Thanks. A good friend has an upholstery business. I do part time sales and design for him. This project didn't cost me anything because I sold him my previous rig under market value in exchange he did all the seats in my 4Runner.
