What did you do with your 4runner today?

I'd look into doing it yourself and just having them reprogram a good used one (buy one on eBay, and if it doesn't work when it's guaranteed to, you can get a refund). It'll cost <$1,000 at most including the O2 sensor

I can't find the exact part number on eBay, even the local mechanic I went to couldn't find this part number. He thinks maybe it is an updated ecu number that Toyota provided. His suggestion is to get the one that's already in it rebuilt for 300-400.

My experience with ECUs is that rebuilding them means they'll fail down the road or won't ever work quite right.

Take a look at this thread. You should just need an ECU from a similar trim 4th gen and you'll be good to go once it's reprogrammed.

Looks like the dealer I bought it from will source a replacement ecu for me providing I return the old one. Swapping it in doesn't seem too difficult but surely it won't be drivable until it's reprogrammed. I have no way to get it to Toyota if its not drivable so its likely I will have to get them to install and program it for me.

Looks awesome any side views? I am getting 285s soon. Wheel spacers and If so what size? How much trimming did you have to do?

Not good news, codes P0606 and P0157. Toyota reckon that the ecu from the salvaged vehicle that was installed before I bought the car is bad. Quote is just over $2000 for ecu and O2 sensor, part number for the ecu is 89661-35A83.

Hoping the dealer that I bought the car from does the right thing.

Did the dealer give you a breakdown on how much the parts are and how much for labor, programing, etc.?

Just curious because where I buy my OEM parts the ECU and 02 sensor only comes to a little over $1100, so it seems they quoting you over $900 for installing parts and programing the ECU. :scared:

The ecu is $1470 and $177 for the O2 sensor, labor and taxes to go on top.

That's over $500 more for the ECU than where I get my OEM parts..McGeorge Toyota in Virginia.

Just an FYI, that dealer is trying to charge you full price and almost all dealers that sells online will beat their prices by a lot, McGeorge
from all my online searching beats almost all dealers online or off line on price of OEM parts.

Not sure on the price difference of the 02sensor without a part number.

Recently had a new JVC radio head unit installed and I’m loving it. I have a 2006 SR5 with 176K on it and no plans to replace it anytime soon.

I’m new to the forum and for some reason I’m not allowed to start my own thread so any help with the following two questions would be appreciated.

1. My compass is not on anymore as of today and I can’t seem to turn it on. Outside of a fuse needing to be replaced would anyone have recommendations on how to fix it?

2. Any good recommendations for cargo/luggage compartment that protect against dog hair? We use my 4Runner to move our two dogs from time to time and I was hoping to get something that makes cleaning the dog hair out afterwards much easier. Any suggestions?

Left my 2005 V6 at home and flew to SoCal to visit relatives. Rented this. Very underwhelming performance. Was thinking I'd be moving to a 5th gen someday, but now questioning that strategy.

Thanks bro, I'll get a side pic for you today. Right now I have Daystar 2.5" lift pucks on it, so it cleared pretty well. No spacers on the TE wheels, they seem to have more offset than regular OEM wheels. They definitely sit out more than my sport wheels did. With the KO2's they sit almost flush with the flares. Didn't rub much. Just on the front fender liners/bumper corners. Pushed both front liners forward about an 1-1.5" and I trimmed the corners smooth on the bumper. Only rubs at full crank in reverse now, not bad at all. Wheel spacers would definitely make it rub much worse.
