What did you do with your 4runner today?

Better pics in the daytime...I had to paint them on the truck after welding so it was kinda... tricky. They came out glossier than I wanted for semi-gloss but it's growing on me.

More what I didn't do...

I found a super low mileage 4th gen Limited with the 4.7 v8. It has 117K kms so like 63K miles. It's a 5 hour drive away but I'd be willing to rent a trailer to attach to my 5th gen and lug it home. Selling for an upper echelon price ($15K CAD or $11K USD) but I have an unhealthy obsession for the 4th gens with the 2UZ engines.

I pulled a car proof and it was in a $9000 accident in 2014. In 2013, it had both lower control arms replaced (ball joints had a bit too much play which I found odd since it only had 85K kms at the time (52K miles). Then in Jan of 2018, the dealership had to replace both front axle boots cause they found aftermarket boot clamps on them which worked their way off. OEM boot kit installed. I found this part the sketchiest, though. It's my guess the lady smoked something in the middle of the winter and then brought it to a hack shop to fix while missing the bent knuckle.

In Mar of 2018, the notes in the service records show that the dealership couldn't get the right rim in spec because the front right knuckle was bent.

To top it off, the timing belt hasn't been replaced yet so that was another cost to add to the list. Any more fixes and I might as well just buy another 5th gen.

I really wanted this one to turn out. Kinda sad it turned out to need too much work.

I probably would have walked away too... 15kCAD seems steep. Good thing you pulled up the records.

Replaced my rear sway bar links

Sorry for the pic I can’t seem to get it right

Finally got rid of my shaking while braking. Power Stop severe truck and tow kit. Time will tell if the quality is good.

Almost got into an accident after not torquing my lug nuts.

2/6 was left on the studs and the two were almost backed out.

This makes me feel better about having to explain and being mocked about what a torque wrench is to people who come over when I'm working on the rig. Easy insurance.

Camping

Tested out the simple sleeping platform I built last week in Teddy Roosevelt National Park (South Unit) & Black Hills National Forest via dispersed camping. Got to visit Devil’s Tower in Wyoming and swim at Keyhole State Park.

My wheel fell off the front of my Jeep because the lug nuts worked their way out. Luckily I was going slow when it happened, the brake rotor ended up against the inside of the rim. Odd that I never felt that they were loose. Since that happened I now recheck them after a short ride whenever a wheel is off. I've found them needed more tightening multiple times doing this. It seems to happen on some rims more than others, never had this on steely rims.

Finally got new shoes. Shop charged me $300 over what was initially verbally agreed upon for a basic alignment and mount and balance the tires.

Overall horrible experience but at least the rig “looks” better.

We spoke about installing the taco tabs beforehand but they tried charging me an extra $150 that got knocked down to $75. They also added a "mount and balance fee" of around $200 after I "just purchased the tires alone" from them for $1300. Add tax onto all of that which normally is /included in all of the quotes I ever get when I go to a shop and it was a recipe for a disaster. To put this in perspective I got a quote for (5) 285/75 /17 for $1300 cash for mount and balance and $1375 at another place.

Alignment is still off so I have to go back tomorrow to schedule a time to get it all straight again. Im glad I know how to wrench and I do almost everything myself but you cant really get away with a great alignment without the correct tools.

The Sequoia wheels are great but you cant fit 35s on them so I am going to be stuck with these 34s for a while.

I put the 2nd gen rear sway links on and noticed I had to reuse the middle bushing cap as the pro forged links only came with two.

If you didn't know (I didn't) the lower bolt on these links has a spot for a hex/allen key to keep it from spinning. The video I watched online didn't indicate this and I was very confused until I did more research.

Here's a picture of it before I took it back apart and put the cap on top of the bottom bushing. You can see it's not compressing the bushings even all the way tight.

Additionally I had to cut the bottom bolt off the drivers side, such a huge pain in the ass.

Do you have a photo of what it looks like with 3 washers?

Are you sure there isn’t a stop or the threads hanging up on the through hole not letting the bottom bushing compress? That’s a pretty good rearward angle it’s at and doesn’t look centered. I can’t imagine them not compressing close to evenly. Do both driver and passenger sides look the same?

Here’s mine, I tightened them and both compressed evenly. These are the polyurethane energy bushings which look shorter than yours’. I only used the 2 washers mine came with. Moog 2nd gen rear links. I had to cut mine off as well, we actually pulled the whole sway bar out to cut on a table, much easier. I was replacing my sway bar bushings with energy poly anyways so two birds there.

2007 SR5/4x4: OME 884/90021 in the front along with some SPC UCA's, and OME 895/60004 in the back. Just picked it up from Slee yesterday. If I could post a pic, I would!
