What did you do with your 4runner today?

I pulled off the roof rack tubes to spray paint matte black. It... hasn't gone well. The mere act of unscrewing the T40 screws that anchor it to the roof, has broken 2 of the 8 screw holes. They are set into the roof frame with like, some plastic tubes and silicone. The force required to unscrew the T40s too easily breaks the entire anchoring mechanism. Also the matte black spraying doesn't look that good.

I much prefer John Deere blitz black over matte black. Check it out, it's their frame paint and it's a satin finish. Popular with the hot rod guys. I painted my grille and silver trim pieces with it to black my 4runner out. Its tough stuff and is easier to clean than matte.

New meat arrived 295/70R17 Yokohama Geolander G003s. Doing a BMC this weekend, as well as a 1.25" Spidertrax spacer install so that they clear my UCAs. I liked my KM2s, but had gotten them used and they're getting low/cracking a looooot between the treads and some on the sidewalls. Was time to move on before I had a blowout on the highway.

I like to upload my images to Imgur and then embed images from imgur into my post. You can copy the html link in imgur and paste it into the forum. It will look like this when you paste the text into the edit window:

You can change the size at the bottom of the imgur window, I like medium and large thumbnails. Replaced the hub assembly on the driver's side. It's funny how quick the wheel bearing will start humming when it was silent before. Although the v8 tick or the gibson catback may have been masking some of it.

I just use masterpro because i'm not worried about it, but when I did the passenger side last year it was $91, now it was $140. Guess the market shifted.

The floor jack handle makes a great axle nut cheater bar.

Got some almost new struts off E-bay. They said less than 1500miles from a Gen5 and they look like it. Gained a couple inches and wow does it ride better.

-finished installing taillight guards (a pain the the behind )
-mounted some trd emblems (not for hp.. the door o swapped onto the car didn't have the same limited 4wd lettering, and after de badging it i found out that the glue was pretty much caked into the clear and was no way to do it cleanly without painting.. so found these emblems that covered it nicely. A little tacky but matches the lettering on the centercaps so I don't mind it too much)
-made more progress on my custom grill.. what a pain, but finally taking shape. Close to paint-ready
-did some more rust proofing to the few components starting to look aged

Tinted the windows on the T4R ... 20% in the rears over factory tint, 5% on the front two and %50 on the windshield!! Perfect setup

Magnetic handgun mount... very strong magnet with a rubber coating around it not to scratch my slide. Mounted it in an area that doesn’t get in the way while driving but also gives quick access if needed. Strong enough to Offroad and it not fall off either!! $20 from sportsman warehouse

Just a little maintenance today after rounding out my 1000+ mile road trip to my property in northern Nevada. Cleaned the K&N filter, MAF sensor and throttle body. After a quick drive around the block the idle is super high(1100 rpm) especially with it being about 107° outside right now. Reset the ECM and we’ll see how it does. This is the first time I’ve cleaned the MAF and TB with 130,000 miles on the clock and man were they filthy.

Awesome! I bet They were super filthy. Let us know if you notice a difference in acceleration or miles per gallon. At least it’s worth the self assurance knowing that it is taken care of

Factory color, you can see a couple posts up that PickleRiiiick has the same color. Certainly not as common as silver but more common than the dark blue, at least in my area. The dark blue and dark gray are my favorite for this Gen.

Full disclosure, I did not do this today. But I’ve done a ton in 2020 while being somewhat confined to my shop. The best bang for your buck was these reverse lights Luyed LED light bulbs. I was looking at adding some reverse lights, but between these that light up like headlamps and another mod I did I’m super satisfied. For like $13 and push-in to install it’s a no brainer. I hope the photos do it justice but I think you get 5hr picture.
Thanks to this forum for ideas, sourcing and inspiration. I’ll share more in the days to come.
