What did you do with your 4runner today?

Installed the 06+ tail lights on my 04. Definitely takes a couple years off of the old girls appearance.

Did you have any issues with the tail light installation? I ordered a set of 06 taillights for my 05 and while the brake lights worked, the turn signals didn't! I have read they're plug and play but I could not get my turn signals to work in the housing.

In my OEM tail lights I'm running LED brake lights (incandescent replacements) and LED reverse lights while keeping the original turn signals. I don't know if switching to the 06 taillights would have some sort of different voltage requirements or something? I'm not skilled enough in electronics to troubleshoot that effectively. The only thing I could think is maybe switching my reverse lights back to the stock bulb to see if that helps with load maybe?

Really at a loss with them. I've seen so many other people have no issues and I just don't understand why it wouldn't work for me. I haven't ruled out it's the housings that are faulty but I've spent so long messing with them I can't return them anymore.

Took her out to the Mississippi River last night with my brother’s 3rd gen. Through trails, woods, and all kinds of stuff. Never underestimate how far RWD will take you!

Cut up a Tacoma grille to fit the 08. Think it turned out pretty good!

Cut out interior pieces of grille and sanded down the insides. Bought a knockoff tacoma grille off ebay for $70 and cut it up to get it into 4th gen grille "shell". Used some glue and zip ties to hold it in place after. The sanding/cutting of tacoma grille is tedious so you don't take off too much. Also the tacoma grille is straight, while 4th gen has a curve in it so you have to work it a bit. Overall, happy with how it turned out and did it for less than $80 while SRQ sells them for $500+.

Well the new housings didn't come with any bulbs besides the built-in brake lights if you want to count those.

My OEM tail lights have the stock turn signals, replacement LED brake lights (bulb style) and replacement LED reverse lights. All work in the OEM housing. I still have the stock turn signal bulb because I haven't updated my flasher relay yet (I don't have DRL).

In the new 06 tail lights I just transferred over the stock turn signal bulbs, my LED reverse lights and plugged in the wiring harness that went to the brake light bulb on the OEM housing into the brake light LEDs on the 06 housing.

Now that I think of it, not even the reverse lights worked in the 06 housings. The only thing that worked were the brake lights. Even the running lights illuminated. But if I put my turn signals on I got hyper-blinking and reverse did nothing.
I should note when I say the turn signals were hyper-blinking, I mean the front ones. There was no illumination whatsoever in the rear.

I don't know if it could be the housings that are faulty since both passenger and driver sides don't work and it seems unlikely they'd have the same issue. I really need to get a set of regular reverse lights to see if the problem still persists.

I'd check the ground wires on your reverse lights and look at the pins on the connectors to make sure things are working properly. Also, are you running resistors for the LED indicators? That's the only thing I can think of. Unless you just got horribly unlucky and reversed the polarity on every single bulb and they all need to be turned around 180 degrees. I'm running LEDs in everything and have zero issues.

Got a body mount chop done today in prep for 285/70/17s. I may or may not have needed it but I wanted to get it just in case.... also may consider going with 285/75/17s! Still deciding.

Did some searching on here and Google. Want to give a shout out to Jason out in Vista (down the street from my house it turns out!) who works on a ton of Toyotas. He has done a crap load of BMCs and saw lots of pics of his work. He does a really good job... super clean! He is super cool too. If anyone in the San Diego area needs a BMC done hit up Jason at SpeedFreek |

Look at all that room now!

Pretty good, with a few really frustrating parts!

There are a couple brackets on the frame that need to be hacked off before install. Victory’s video didn’t mention them at all. I picked the bumper up at their shop with the plan of throwing a couple bolts in to get it home. Had to tweak the brackets with the BFH in the parking lot to fit it in place.

The fit on the bumper is great, everything seemed to line up perfect for my test fits.

When it came time to install it for good, I could NOT get one side to line up properly. Turns out that one of my pod lights was hitting the frame rail. I ended up forcing it into place, but the light is misaligned, and I’ll have to pull the bumper to hack it up for clearance. The pod light holes aren’t slotted, but they should be for adjustment.

If you have adventure carriers, you have to install the latch catches on the bumper before putting it on the truck. You can’t get to them after it’s installed.

If you have the ladder, the bottom step will hit the bumper when you open the carrier. I bent mine up to clear, but Victory will need to slightly redesign it for better clearance.

The Jerry can carrier also doesn’t seem to fit the Scepter water jugs, I have a note to Victory asking about that.

The powder coating on my bumper seems a little thin / under cured. It seemed to crack / chip off a lot easier than I’d expect, be careful with it.

I also installed my Front Runner table, this is going to work perfect!

Thanks! It’s sweet so far, I’m really happy with it.

Another note, the tire carrier uses 1/2-20 lug nuts, and includes a few acorn nuts to match that. Those won’t work with most aftermarket wheels, I had to make a last minute run to the auto parts store and buy a $33 set of spline drive nuts.
