What did you do with your 4runner today?

Started wiring the '15 tacoma lights for project tacorunner.

Installed arb pump and switches in preparation for the front amd rear regeared amd locked diffs to go in this weekend.

And also finished the first iteration of my own roof rack design to get quoted through a local vendor.

I found the model on turbosquid I believe. It wasn't free, or cheap, and also does not appear to be accurate.. doing some more measuring but we'll see.

I finalized the roofrack using my old photogrammetry method and just used the model for a visual aid.

New Owner

Hi Everyone, I am a new 4 Runner owner. Just got the 2021 Venture.

I am definitely a noob.

I have manual 4wd. It is snowing today in northeast.

I have a few questions because this is my first time

1. Should I be using H4 for for driving?
2. while driving slowly I sometimes hear clicking noise when sliding.
3. Should I be uising the multi terain select option?
4. What about the buttons at top - TRAC - Rear Differntial Lock?

This may not be the appropriate thread for this but who am I to say? This thread is for 4th gen 2003-2009. your system has features not found in older models. The owners manually should have an easy to follow guide for your 4WD system.
1. You can select H4 for slick conditions that warrant the use of 4WD. Just don’t use it on dry pavement or above the speed limit set in the owners manual.
2. The “clicking” is the traction control manually applying the brakes to limit wheel slip.
3. Idk what the multi-terrain feature is. Another 5th gen owner would be more helpful than I. Sorry
4. Diff lock is used in 4lo. Once again read the owners manual. It’s full of good stuff.

Your Subi was full time symmetrical AWD or something like that so it’ll feel different I guess.

The nice things about the 4th gen 4runners is that you can unlock the center diff and drive around in 4wd on pavement at any speed. I always use H4 with the center diff unlocked in snow, on dirt roads and even in rainy conditions. It is pretty much like a Subaru that way! Now if you do have a 5th gen then you are out of luck and can only use H4 in very slippery conditions (e.g. snow on road) and only at lower speeds.

Finally got around to servicing the transmission today. 134,000+ miles and it hadn’t been done yet. Followed the flush and fill write-up by [MENTION=113703]46runner[/MENTION] it was a pretty simple but time consuming process. WS fluid was dark golden brown. I replaced it with Valvoline MaxLife. I’ll see how it performs and may use WS at 200,000, we’ll see.

I disabled the TPMS sensor to turn off the orange light on the dash.

Replaced the age old splash guard with Rad Rubber design splash guard.

Finally fixed the leaking valve cover gasket.. Put new ones and followed the info guides, steps and youtube videos from this site. Thanks to this forum and members here. Ran into some trouble but came out good. Took my time too. Lol

Got the swingout done (for now) today.

Got my first 4 runner last week. 06 sr5 w/leather interior. First mods are practicality and personal touch things. Usb quick charge 3.0 and baseball shifter. Probably overpaid for the truck, but after 6 months of looking at rusted out frames and shot interiors this one was the one.

Welded on my BAMF sliders over the weekend. My first big welding project. Will probably have to go back and grind/re-weld some stuff.

The sliders themselves are beefy as hell and for 350 picked up it was a steal. All you have to weld is the frame plates and frame. No cutting involved. This is the reason I went with these over 4xinnovations.
