What did you do with your 4runner today?

I picked up my T4R from the mechanic today. I had a Brake, ABS, TCL, VCS lights all on, a loud buzzer warning, and mega heavy brakes. They said it needed a new master cylinder assembly. I know components on the assembly can be replaced, however this mechanic didn't want to or was unwilling do that, so it was either a $3,300 new one or a $1,250 used one. So i got a used one. They also put on my pair of new Bilstein 5100 front shocks, set to the 3/4 setting. With the fj springs I have, its ~2.25-2.5” lift I’d estimate. Rides way better and its about level with the rear. Also did alignment.

Recently purchased an 04 Limited. Just completed, new headlights, a new driver's seat bottom re-cover, timing belt, water pump, and all the recommended parts. Ran into the no-start issue. Discovered it was a break in the crank sensor wire. Only took a day to discover that issue.

Getting ready to pull the plug on a OME 2" lift but could use some confidence. I have 275/70r/18 on MT Baja Boss's that purchased and all the research has my brain scrambled and unsure. Any guidance would be appreciated. PM with any ridicule.

Pics soon

- Installed a spare yoga mat to the side of the garage so my 4runner doors don't hit the wall anymore.

- Mounted the good ole Valentine1 radar that I had laying around to the rear view mirror. Planning to hardwire it eventually.

Got my 4Runner back from the shop a week or so ago after discovering a bad valve cover gasket leak (after some major work that they'd completed). They'd told me the cover was warped and that I'd have to pay for parts to fix the issue. To the tune of $390. Naturally, I said hell no and bought a $50 used eBay cover and a new gasket.

It was the passenger side, so took me maybe 45 minutes to replace on Thursday. At which point I found a very funny looking warp...

Gave the shop a call and gave them a piece of my mind. They ended up covering the parts cost for me, as well as my time spent driving to them (90 mins away)/fixing the problem. So all-in-all a good result, but still a little pissed that they let me drive home with a visibly cracked cover. I could see some extra RTV at that corner, so figure they knew. The marring on the bolt hole makes me think they cracked it trying to pry the cover off.

After fixing that, I did some general cleanup. Replaced some dead interior bulbs, replaced push-fasteners in the engine bay that'd broken, and then took her up into the mountains (Union Springs Road, Virginia) for the first time in way too long.

If you're able to get to a speed where you need a radar detector, you're not lifted enough and need bigger tired :D:D:D jk jk, I only say that because it's a challenge for me to a steady 70 on the highway in my land whale with an RTT, metal bumpers and 35's. It is much happier in the 50-60mph zone

I got to discover that my rig actually DOES have rust lol… just not where everyone else does on the frame, but rather on the one part I never use.. my sunroof.

Seems to be a fairly common issue due to a crappy design and failing seal that allows water to pool under the seal and not get out into the drain.

hahahaha. Oh i definitely feel the speed in the 4runner in comparison to my wifes RX350. Maybe its time to ditch the 265s for some 285s. hehe

Radar is mostly for the local roads here where the speed changes drastically between 20mph-45mph and the cops of every small city are just siting there waiting to increase their revenue (you jump from one city to another within minutes of driving).

Miss the speed limits of Bakersfield, CA where all main roads were pretty much 55mph.

Built a sleeping platform and drawers over the weekend. Not he prettiest but should be 100% functional. Will give them a test run over New Years!

How much did it cost you in materials? if you don't mind sharing. thank you.

I installed the RCI roof rack tie down points to my LFD cross bars. It looks great and makes the roof rack more functional now. Also my Slumberjack Road House Tarp just came in the mail, can't wait to get that going in my camp gear.

Not at all. Just to guesstimate (I should have kept better track...): It was about $300 in plywood but I still have half a sheet of 1/2" left over not to mention a lot of off cuts. Slides were $60 and $70 for a pair of regular and a pair of locking. Piano hinges were $10 each, tie down turnbuckles were $5 each. Box of screws was $5. Handles were $15.

So all together it was around $450-500 in materials. I put it all together with screws, no glue, so I can disassemble if needed as I start to test it out. I'll probably put a coat of poly on after the test run if I'm happy with it and I have some spare carpet that I'll put on top eventually. I'm happy with how it turned out.

New here!

Got a new-to-me 2007 from a family member, and I am absolutely loving it.

Ran Christmas errands quite happily today. Loved the traffic because it gave me more time in the car. Ha.

Came out to the parking lot on my last errand and and saw that someone had left me a little Christmas present in the form of a lil bumper scrape. But I forgive them. It's got some other scrapes, and it's Christmas.

While it sucks that it happened to you, I have found that I'm glad mine isn't in perfect cosmetic condition because I let things slide a lot easier haha.

2005 SR5 4Runner 4.0 is possessed

New to forum... My son inherited mom's 4Runner. 165K miles and runs tip top. However, recently every warning light comes on, speedo drops to 0, AC automatically goes on high yet she runs like normal. Then all the lights disappear only to become possessed again 3 minutes later. I tested battery 12.4V, turned everything on and revved to 3K RPM and battery registered a consistent 14.2V. These things only happen after driving for 15 minutes. Hooked up OB2 sensor and got no codes.

I don't think it's the alternator, voltage regulator or the battery. Although the battery warning light stays on longer than the other warning lights. I'll disconnect neg battery terminal for 30 minutes to see if that works.

Could it be the ECU going out? Please advise.

Maybe check your ALT-S fuse

Just changed my spark plugs on my SR5 v6 (used this guide How To: Spark Plug Change (1 GR-FE) | Tacoma World). Took about an hour and a half. My truck has 100k and based on having half denso and half NGK looks like they were on the OG plugs…

Next month will be doing transmission fluid drain and fill then month after the cooling system (spreading out the 100k service items for ease).

How old is the battery?

Went for a short drive through the Spring Mountain National Forest. It’s only about a 25 mile loop but it’s rough, takes about 4 hours.

Started mocking up my washer reservoir relocate.
