What does everyone keep in their rear cargo panel?

Before I consulted my manual, I thought this area was for a missing factory jack kit.

After I found that under the seat, I knew I had a convenient hiding place for my macgyver items.
In here i have..
4"x30' strap
Assorted clevises and frame hook
ABC type fire extinguisher
Ratchet strap
Zip ties
Electrical tape
Roll of nylon rope
Slip joint pliers
Knife
Spare Ice scraper

Tow strap, jumper cables, leather gloves, winch remote, pair of shackles and some bungies. I think that is about it. Got the unfortunately small panel so to get anything out everything has to come out with how tight it is.

Yes, to me it is more accessible then extinguishers on service trucks which are inside toppers, in tool boxes, etc.

I agree with you on this. Access to your fire extinguisher could mean the difference between a salvageable rig or a total loss. Here's mine, in the wasted space in front of my seat. Fire engine red.

That's exactly where Toyota put it in my '97 Brazilian HiLux SW4, where a fire extinguisher is required original equipment. A triangle, also required, goes in the racklet in the back compartment along with a (required) first aid kit.

The extinguisher law goes back to the tendency of air-cooled VW bug engines to catch fire in the Brazilian heat. Happened all the time.

That's not true lol. Neither one of them are bad but buying straight up equipment that has one use that you haven't used it for is a little worse than buying a vehicle that had one feature you haven't used yet but you still use the vehicle everyday.

Neither are a big deal so you don't need to try to justify it, really.
