what else can i do to improve mpg

Drive at 55mph to 60mph for optimal mpgs's. Modest acceleration from stop, change the fuel filter, put some gas stabilizer every couple of tanks. What MPG do you get?

Remove extra junk in the trunk! Remove roof rack cross bars. Air up tires to 35# (nitrogen fill stays more consistent). Use premium gas. Use synthetic fluids. Keep windows up. Go with smoother tread vs Mud/Snow tires (if you don't need the luggy tread). Freer flowing exhaust might help a tad (if you make it roar). Coast to amber/red lights vs braking at last minute. Use cruise control where safe.
This winter, I seem to be getting 16.7 MPG on '03 V6 4x4 according to computer on regular gas - which I suspect is 1 MPG optimistic. I get around 17.9 in warm weather. That's all around town. It's couple MPH better on interstates if I keep to speed limits.
Was reading in Automobile magazine just out that the 2010 4Runner with the 4 cyl gets 1 MPG better in city and same on highway as the V6.

12-15 sounds ridiculously low.
I averaged 20.9 MPG on my last tank. Used 4x4 about 40% of the time and logged a trip to/from the mountains.

There just some nutcases that are killing there cars trying to get 38mpg as opposed to 35mpg, they could always shut the hell up, because there are way more efficent cars outside of this country that get over 50mpg that dont have a hybrid badge on the back.
T4r4life, I get 21mpg in the summer and 18 in the winter, you need to lay off the gas pedal, or i dont wanna hear you complain. DO NOT COAST IN NEUTRAL, THAT F's YOUR TRANNY UP Also cruise control won't always help mpg, you must remember that on cars cruise control locks the MPH not the RPM.

I get about 19-21 on the hwy. Really though if you buy a SUV don't expect to get good mileage like a car.
I have 65,000 on mine and I have switched the plugs every 30,000, installed K&N filter, use Mobil 1 in diffs and transfer case ever 30,000 and use Castrol syntec 5w-30 every 4000 miles. I have not done anything else to the 4Runner other than using gas/fuel inj treatment ever 2-3 oil changes.
I was thinking of having the fuels injectors cleaned, but I'm not sure it's worth it? The maint on the 4Runner is very limited per the scheduled service manual and this website listed below. I keep thinking there is something else to do, but the manual confirms there is not. Pretty cool...

I just changed my timing belt at 100K on my 05 v8 and I think it helped the mileage a tiny bit, maybe even up to 1 mpg better. I replaced the tensioner both idler pulleys and the water pump (pulley included) so with all new bearings it may have helped. One idler pulley was leaking some grease although it still spun freely.
It would be a good idea to check that all pulleys like alternator, ps pump, a/c pump, idlers spin smoothly without much friction.
