What happened with Inferno?

As after 6 months we continue to be mobbed, flagged down, have selfies taken, have white 4runner owners slobber all over our Inferno, ect, ect, it begs the question...Where did it go so fast? I think we know..

1. Toyota developed it as the most stand out color ever to market the Pro roll out.
2. Pre-orders were lop sided towards inferno and Toyota put the smack down on dealers for placing the bulk of the orders for Inferno instead of Black or White for clients.(we just had to wait on an Inferno to show up as being made for the dealer)

So such an amazing marquis color, made in such a limited production, why?

1. Because the changing color scheme is very expensive to do and they could not charge extra.(I am betting on this one)
2. To increase the mystique of TRD Pro
3. To continue to justify the theory buyers only want bland colors

What is your theory? Granted I have never owned an Italian sports car or anything, but having people go nuts over your car every day is amazing.

I have always wanted a bold colored vehicle. 4Runner just doesn't come in bold colors. The Salsa Red is borderline, but still not flashy.

Even though I do love my MGM, I'd like to see some brighter/bolder colors... not everyone wants bland.

I have one... sort of. Mine is an actual Toyota FJ40. And I love it! But it is not a daily driver in any sense of the term. It's so practical that I take it out at least once or twice a year. :( I really need to get rid of it, or drop it back to some reasonable amount of lift and maybe 37" tires? I would love an FJ44 from ICON if a had an extra $200k laying around.

I can't vouch for the Tacoma, but the Tundra is entirely assembled a little south of you in San Antonio, and 80% of the parts are American made. So I'm betting the paint work is done down there also.

You actually have people taking selfies with your truck because of the color? Give me a break. Some people need to get out more.
 
It's just luke warm now ...like all "off" colors, they look really cool in the initial impact, but looking at it every day...

Tacoma splits time between Baja and SA. I'm wondering if paint options (or lack of) has something to do with where the bodies are painted.

SO true. It does not age well....... Small sports cars can pull it off for a while, but they even look retarded as they age. Big trucks and SUVs.... stick with a basic color. It's all opinion though.

Just being honest, not rude... but I honestly think "Yuk" when I see the inferno 4rs now. I thought they were OK at first. I like classic subtle colors... White/Tan/Silver......

Yup, the Inferno scheme just screams for attention that will get smoked from stop light to stop light by a new Corolla. Keep those flashy colors to sporty cars, not slow moving camping/rugged SUVS. Quicksand is nice though.
 
I loved them when they first came out too. I'm not sure why my reaction changed. I saw one in person and actually thought it looked great, but it is a really obnoxious color in some pics., in my opinion. And I agree with 4rnrgrl in that the bland colors are bland, but I wish they had done an army green or something that was unusual without being a slap upside the head. I think probably the bottom line is that you would appreciate the color if you are a certain type of person.
 
Saw a baby poo Taco at the dealer, I dunno, that could get old quick too. Like pastel 1970's cars.
 
I still like my Inferno which is odd because I didn't like it all that much when I bought it. I'm a black/silver/white guy usually. I also don't have anybody waving me down or wanting to take selfies with it either though lol. I did have a little old lady stop and tell me she loved the color once but it was brand new and she was probably reacting to how clean it was...lol.

Oh and it hasn't attracted any dicks either. Unless you count [MENTION=131488]ST1FLER[/MENTION]. :wink2:
