It is not trolling. I am looking for a real answer that apparently nobody really knows. I have seen a dozen vids and understand what less is, but what happens if it fails? Is the vehicle unbalanced? If one was to drain the fluid couldn't the system just be passive?

Hmmmm a member since 2006 asking about kdss...
From what I understand, if it fails the lug nuts cannot be tighten again and all four wheels will eventually fall off! Definitely unsafe driving condition.
For this reason I got a 2010 trail w/o kdss

I'm not 100% on what would happen, but if it fails, don't drive over any banana peels while shouting "O'Doyle rules!" on the way home. Just sayin.

I will admit that they can be a bit harsh to these types of threads.
But please understand that a lot of questions have already been asked and many seasoned members have spent their time and energy answering them. So out of courtesy it would make sense to search the forum a couple of times as well as do a basic research in your topic before starting a thread. The forum is not a google search.
Also, please don't take any of these replies personally. These types of ribbing goes on at a lot of social outings, sports teams and yes, T4R forums. In fact, take it as a welcome from the veteran members....but learn fast! :cheers:
The douchebag responses from the regulars make the forum less interesting to even bother logging into. And it's one of the reasons I won't look for any of them at the Overland Expo. They don't have the self control just to STFU, because, the internet....

This thread is definitely an embarrassment for T4R

Instead of a noob 15 reply wait to post I think maybe there aught to be a max of 3000 posts period. After that, forum regulars almost always turn into trolls. (Here and everywhere else)
As for /exactly/ what might happen when it breaks catastrophically I don't think anyone really knows as I've not read of anyone having that happen. Though several people have had a cylinder fail (leak) and had to have it replaced for 3-4 grand.
But to hazard a guess, I doubt it would strand you any where. At worst, may just be like not running with sway bars at all. In the end though To sell or be safe in the long term I think you would have to fix it. Driving with no sway bars is not really safe at all. (Wind, high speed cornering, dodging an accident etc. can throw you out of control a LOT faster than with it)

As for the OP's question, if you don't get the system fixed if you have an issue you'll have a serious impairment to your suspension system. Depending on how the system fails (I believe usually it fails in an "open" manner meaning the sway bar is essentially rendered useless) you'll have no front and/or rear sway bar, which means vehicle stability and handling on road are severely hampered.

Should have read the links I posted! The Tacomaworld one started with a similar question and devolved much faster than this one. It's most forums, not just the 5th gens, clearly we are special but not when it comes to sarcasm and snarkiness.
I suspect KDSS is like many things, there are different stages of broke. Minor issue, still drivable, moderate issue, may be drive able but unsafe, major issue, you own a brick if you don't fix. I think this is why op gets so much flack.
