What is Economy mode?

What is economy mode? Or what does it do?

I know it doesn't shut down 2 of the 6 cylinders, but, i have no idea what it does.

2.) If i wanted turn it off, how would i do that?

3.) When or why would i want to turn off the eco mode?

I searched the forum, and didn't find too much regarding this feature.

It's just an indicator light on the dash; it has no mechanical or performance impact. Pages 186-7 explain it more. For reference, here's what you'll find in the manual...

"Eco Driving Indicator Light: During environment-friendly acceleration operation (Eco driving), Eco Driving Indicator Light will turn on."

Like the previous guy said. I think it just tells you when you are driving apropriately for the best gas results. Kinda like driving green. I havent heard of it turning anything off in the motor. Just another indicator light.

But if it bothers you it asks if you want eco on when you go to to reset the trip odometer. Scroll through with the stick button where you access the trip odometer and you will find it.

I commute in my 4r and I like the feature. It is a gentle reminder to me to be a little smoother on the gas pedal, and I'm rewarded with a few mpg.

Its always good to do a search or read up on things , but sometimes things seem unclear or time does not permit it . Just feel free to ask . If someone wants to waste their time posting misc. bs to your post thats their problem.

Thanks I will turn mine off as the brighter yellow light at night tends to draw my eyes to the light, instead of out the windshield.

On another note: While new here, I have posted over 2K times in Honda Ridgeline forums for the past 6 years. While it is easy to say "RTFM," I have read my 2011 4Runner manual cover to cover and still missed several key points, especially about the audio system. I will read and re-read it several times over the next few weeks to better aquaint myself with Toyota technology and doing what I do for a living, gaining knowledge, either through reading or asking questions on a forum like this is better than stumbling blindly through life. I know it's tedious answering the same questions day after day when all they had to do was RTFM but hey, some people don't even think to read something on paper anymore lol.

Register your VIN at toyota.com and you can get them online. Or you can click on one of the 5 sticky topics in the 5th Gen forum and get a link to the manual, as provided by nashman69g.

There is no reason to make my experience here less enjoyable by putting the expectation on me to do the homework of others, thereby enabling their own laziness, just so they feel more welcome. Learning to use the search function is a skill that not only answers questions, but will also serve you well on other forums in the future. For 5th Gen specific questions, go to the 5th gen forum and click on the "Search this forum" button, and select "show posts" to get previews of the posts with terms you used: Eco Mode

The search button is our friend and we all should at least try to use it and for gosh sakes please read your manual . If you don't understand , then ask questions .

Glad to hear it was easy. I am new here as well and still havent read my manual. Just start messing with things and find stuff by accident normally. Its always nice to be able to help someone if at all possible.

I don't mind helping people, really. I just ticks me off to see people not put forth even the tiniest bit of effort to find an answer or, worse, post something like "new stereo mods, post up pictures here!" when a search would have revealed an existing thread. The laziness just irks me.

On the other hand, if people are still stuck after spending some time trying to find a specific answer, I am more than happy to help if I can. I'm all for new threads too if the question is unique, like the thread about windshield wiper de-icers. And when people PM me with questions, I either give them the straight facts or refer them to another member who has better info or experience than I do.

Hey Fellas-

Well, I didn't mean to spark a debate regarding the use of the "search button". Believe me, I've got about 3,000 posts over at glocktalk.com and 7,000 posts at dallas-mavs.com, so i know all about worthless threads being started, and the mods or the 'regulars' chastising a new member for not searching first. It does get annoying, but, at the same time, come on.

Both, those sites are great by the way, if you are interested in glocks, or all types of firearms, or for some great mavs discussion too.

Anyway, To defend myself i did indeed use the search function on this site as well as google. I was using the term "economy" or "economy mode", and wasn't seeing what i was looking for. Apparently, "eco' mode is what it is called.

Its ironic that someone would just say "rtfm", when if you did read the manual, it actually doesn't say what it does, so reading the manual still wouldn't solve the problem. I would still need to seek further explanation. I still don't know what "eco" mode really does, other than it lights up a LED, and it tells you if you are putting too much on the gas or not. That seems like an odd feature, surely, it does something else! haha

Anyway, Yeah, so i am new here. But, not new to the "forum etiquette".

Let's try and be more respectful to others, rather than chasing them away. We all want this site to grow and gain members right?

I remember seeing these lights on cars as early as 1980ish VW rabbits. Nothing new. Honda's looks like a leaf. But I guess Honda's actually does something.
