There is no reason to make my experience here less enjoyable by putting the expectation on me to do the homework of others, thereby enabling their own laziness, just so they feel more welcome. Learning to use the search function is a skill that not only answers questions, but will also serve you well on other forums in the future. Its ironic that someone would just say "rtfm", when if you did read the manual, it actually doesn't say what it does, so reading the manual still wouldn't solve the problem. I would still need to seek further explanation. I still don't know what "eco" mode really does, other than it lights up a LED, and it tells you if you are putting too much on the gas or not. That seems like an odd feature, surely, it does something else! haha

dude, the point of my thread was I assumed the "eco" mode actually did something...as in...something mechanical. I've since learned that "eco" mode is nothing more than a display that informs the driver if their acceleration rate is within the threshold of the 'eco' parameters. I've actually read the manual..just now by the way, and the manual left me wanting more. I still think, they should explain that it's not really a 'feature'....

I honestly never reply to a thread where all people do is complain about not searching or RTFM. I guess I have to give in and state my $.02. If something has already been answered or beaten to death, what good does it do to respond? Don't they teach you as a kid to ignore things like that?!?!?!? It honestly takes more effort to respond in a negative manner than if you ignore it. Plus, if no-one responds, the person posting will probably get a little creative and search a little harder. I can understand if someone posts a new thread about something that has been covered a million times and then bumps it when no-one answers, but honestly, don't bother to respond if all you have to say is negative. This is not aimed at anyone person, as everyone on here has flamed someone at some point in time. However, it is as if some people get off on the power of posts... :rant: Now back to the original topic. I may be wrong on this but I think that most people disable the ECO mode as it is simply an indicator. You probably know by now if you drive with a heavy foot or not. It will indicate what is ideal for optimal fuel economy. I used it for the first few weeks, until I got used to engine sound, speed, and the shifting patterns of the vehicle. After that, you can pretty much train yourself to drive so that you can get the most bang for your buck.

It is a bit backward; if you think about it … a light that turns on to indicate that you are saving energy. One would expect the light to go out, implicitly acknowledging the fuel savings. Maybe it is premised on the psychological theory of positive reinforcement; i.e., green is Go, Go is good vs. Stop is bad, so as long as the light is green you are being good.

Mine seems to be shaped like a Prius … my eco-light that is.

Then again, maybe Toyota had one too many summer interns, and a few extra LEDs … you never know.

on my 2016 pro to turn it off scroll thru using the DISP button on the steering wheel, it is in the settings section (press n hold) and labeled "eco lamp". Simply press n hold eco lamp and you can turn it off.

I have a 2016 limited and turned mine off when I drove from Virginia to Georgia. I then turned it on on my return trip (of course I didn't read the manual first) and it made no difference on gas mileage. As my father would have said (It's just another idiot light to make things pretty) no offense, not calling you an idiot. That's just what he woulda said. Another extra to make things look good

Yep. I'm the same guy as I always was but, as a mod dealing with some of the people here makes me wonder about the future of our world...

I am astounded by the sheer number of people who think the world owes them something and the concept of personal responsibility is a lost art.

I have found it amusing. Chuckled a few times and scratched my head a few others but I'm seaming to like the gruff attitudes on here. I'm getting an education and a laugh at the same time at everyone else's expense. Thanks for both guys.

Thanks I will turn mine off as the brighter yellow light at night tends to draw my eyes to the light, instead of out the windshield.

On another note: While new here, I have posted over 2K times in Honda Ridgeline forums for the past 6 years. While it is easy to say "RTFM," I have read my 2011 4Runner manual cover to cover and still missed several key points, especially about the audio system. I will read and re-read it several times over the next few weeks to better aquaint myself with Toyota technology and doing what I do for a living, gaining knowledge, either through reading or asking questions on a forum like this is better than stumbling blindly through life. I know it's tedious answering the same questions day after day when all they had to do was RTFM but hey, some people don't even think to read something on paper anymore lol.
